Yes, I believe that is the case - if you use items from the Cajon route.
As I've just re-purchased RS but the American retail version it almost inevitably means any routes I create with that will require the user to have the Cajon Pass add-on installed (assuming the route can access the required files through the UK add on as opposed to being default in the US original retail version).
Conversely means I probably won't be able to run any routes created with the UK version as mine won't have York to Newcastle (at least until there's a similar add on for the US pack which includes the route).

Good, innit!

Define "default" and "compatible"

"as opposed to being default in the US original retail version", it's not default to the US version, you have to set the object filter for it. Make a route with a US template you have to set the object filter to get UK content into that route, make a route with a UK template you have to set the object filter to get US content into that, even with a "pure" US only version. And you have to choose one or the other depending on which terrain textures you want, can't have both sets of terrain textures.

Some have experimented with merging the terrain textures;

Only problem with that is you'll need to include the hacked texture.bin file or the route will crash on the end user's system. :drinking:

Sheesh.

So an original route in the US edition is not directly regarded as default content!

I assume Jim that applies to all the content from Cajon, including buildings? So if I find an office block on Cajon I want to use in an otherwise UK route I can't, unless I hack?

As I said good, innit!!

No, the manual hacking only applies to the terrain textures, all other content and trainsets CAN be used without hacking, but you need to set the object filter for the "foreign" stuff. Set it once and that's it, as far as distributing the route goes. See the US versions of the Metro Suburban and PO&N, both of those were created with the default template, hacked to remove all the York Newcastle content, then set the object filter so I could use everything "default" to the US only version. Once the object filter is set those routes work "out of the box" for either the US only version or the UK version with the Cajon expansion pack, without the end user needing to do anything other than doubleclick on the RouteSetup.exe.

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 15&t=80109

Only problem left is cloning a route;

http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/RailSim ... route.html

When you create a new route you have to go into the new blank route and set the object filter for the "foreign" content if the route you're cloning has it set on before copying the contents of the original route in. And if the templates aren't the same you need to delete the MixMap folder when you copy the rest of the contents in, otherwise the "missing" terrain textures will crash it.

i was more intrested in the buildings etc than the texture files.

if i was going to use my route on a personal basis this wouldnt be a prob.

its just if i put it out as freeware the only people who can use it would be the ones with the ext pack.

that is right

i think

Right.

http://uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php? ... 4fe19fce8a

Note that one has the warning "requires US version or addon", if you upload a route using content from BOTH the US route AND the York Newcastle route, you'd just need to put something like "requires FULL version of railsim" in the description. That way anyone looking to download it knows they need all five "default" routes installed to run your route. Really a better way to go since it gives you a wider selection of stuff, just requires your fans to buy the fifth route. Only reason I elected to not use York Newcastle content in the future is cuz these screwy Redcoats pissed me off and I declared war.

I was looking to use the sandy textures from Cajon to do beaches, etc. Guess I will have to "raid" Mayang again and see if I can figure out how to get a new terrtex into the game!
