Re: Patch Fixes to Route Editing

I have been able to replicate the fence/road sticking up in the air problem post patch.

It appears to occur if you have been using "Snap To" terrain to lay the lofted object, break off to do something else then attempt to resume by attaching to the end of the previous piece. The only workaround is to try and resume laying by leaving a small gap but not a continuous section. This even occurs if you lay the smallest of lengths so as not to confound the terrain following.

Another irritation, roads have been giving me Jim's infamous "barfed" short sections. If I press the undo button, it deleted the whole length of road contiguosly connected, not just the individual sections one at a time.

Hi Vern

If you lay fencing or anything with snap to terrain, you will now find that if you later want to edit the gradients on that lofted object, selecting gradients points on the joins will only move one end of the section you have selected. if you want to edit gradients you now have to place a new gradient point within the section and also include 'stop' gradient points each side of the section you are editing to prevent the lifting or lowering affecting the whole lofted oblect. The main point to remember is not to place new gradient points on section joins even though that may seem to be the logical place to put them.

With particular reference to adding a further section to an already laid snap to terrain lofted object, you can leave a gap or you can select the gradient tool and place a new gradient point in the very last section you laid near to the very end but not on the very end. Any sections you then add to the line can be edited with the gradient tool but nothing backwards beyond the new gradient point you placed on the original section will be affected. It seems good practice when laying snap to terrain lofted objects to place regular additional gradient points - not on section joins - and this should prevent the whole object raising into the air or sticking up at odd angles when connecting a new section, or at least limit the effect if it does happen.

I used this technique prior to upgrade 1 and as Vern says, the odd effects with snap to terrain lofted objects were not entirely eliminated in the upgrade, but it should not be a problem if you use the technique I have described. I am hoping that upgrade 2 will include gradient changes in the undo facility and then we would not have to worry so much about simple errors in gradient work. For some reason almost every action can be undone at the moment except gradient changes.

Also as Vern says, sometimes undo does not undo in the same order that it was done. If you cannot undo the addition of a small section then this requires the split track tool to trim off a bit about the size you placed and try again.
