Overbridge near Signalbox Radstock, adding tracks.

Post by Oldpufferspotter »

According to a locoshed diagram in the book 'Highbridge in its Heyday' by Colin Maggs, the bridge at Radstock had a double track crossing it at an acute angle and leading down the embankment to join the spur line which connects the S and D to the GWR line. I've deleted the old bridge over the S and D and constructed a longer one at an acuter angle and laid a double track across it and down the embankment parallel to the siding next to the embankment on the Bath side. I've also extended that siding so that it joins the double track, and then all of them join the spur line.
Can anyone help please with the location of Writhlington Colliery. Is it anywhere near to Radstock station? Does this double track over the S and D line lead to Writhlington, or does it lead elsewhere?
I don't want exact precise details, just a general idea please. I am extending the GWR line purely out of my imagination towards Hallatrow, and then hopefully back under Midford Viaduct, so I'm not doing an expert job of it as I've never been down that part of the country in my life. I just want to get locations 'round about' where they ought to be.
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give.
Regards from an Old Chap.

Thanks very much for the Somerset archives web address. Found the map straight away, 2nd edition, Writhlington; excellent. I don't do a lot of searching on the net so having the address given to me saves me a lot of head banging!
For anyone else who happens to read this, the map shows all of the tracks in detail, and there were several collieries very close to Radstock. The spur line between the SDJ and GWR seems to be very short on the route as supplied by Railsim, so now I'm going to have to see if I can extend it somehow to accommodate more collieries into the layout!
Thanks for the help,
regards from that Old Chap.
