Hi'
Is there something in KRS like MSTS Distant Mountains?
I have extracted terrain from hgt files, but I can't see mountains beyond a few kilometers.
Who know something about?
Thanks and sorry for my english again.

I would be curious about this as well. I was looking for this last night, but didn't notice anything to indicate the feature in RS.

We'll just have to hope that there's a setting you can define as part of the route template that defines how far scenery (or even just the ground surface) will be resolved.....

Hello

After one month... the release of devtoolpack.. the release of documentations.. i think that is time to bump up this topic
I'm starting to work on the conversion of my msts route, where the DM play a major roule, because my route takes place in a place that is called the valley of the "hundred valleys", where the mountains are up to 2200m and i can see a 4.200m high mountain from a distance of 50kms
So the questions are:
1) The graphic engine of RS is able to reproduce the concept of Distant mountain?
2) will be there something about the DM into the upcoming Patch?
3) If not in the patch... will be implemented into a short range of time (ie. 3-4 months)?
4) they will never be available into RS so it's better for me to return to my route in MSTS to see the DM?
Out of order) Something similar to the gothic 3 DM?

On the same topic it would be useful to know what the maximum draw distance is. In MSTS it was 2000m in Trainz about 1500m. Distant scenery may work on a different basis to the other two sims with no distinction between "normal" and "distant" draw, but ought to be documented somewhere. If I can ever get the RE working properly there's then some idea how far either side of the line to go with DEM etc.

One thing that's always puzzled me is that if you get SimTrain's "Bernina Express" Add On for MSTS, you can see for miles from Alp Grum at the top of the descent, all the way to Miralalgo at the far end of Lake Poshiavo. According to my Swiss Rail Atlas that is 20km by rail and at least 12km as the crow flies. Did the Simtrain guys find some way around the max draw distance?

Hi!
Distant Mountain are very important in routes like I want to build.
I was working in a chilean route called Santiago to ValparÃaso for MSTS, but when I heard about rail simulator I thought that this route looks better in the new simulator, but i never thought that I couldn't see distant mountains.
A few caps from my "primitive" route. Distant Mountains are very important when the route that you want to build is born with mountains.
Sorry for my english.

Remember me something

Without the DM is useless to import a mountain route into RS....

Adam, Derek - any info on Draw distance or the Distant mountains issue, please?

Standard draw distance appears to be around 2km for an isolated lump in a flat landscape, it just pops up which is rather annoying, and without Distant mountains Highland, West Highland and C&O are out of the question.
However I have since built some hills around 100m and they are visible from at least 4km away but again do just pop up rather annoyingly!

Well, not impossible but less than convincing.
And something like the Bergenbanen up the fjords towards Voss and Myrdal is not going to look very spectacular without some means of displaying distant terrain.
The Swedish route I've just started has some hilly terrain but it will be a few weeks before sufficient infrastructure and scenery is in place to test the issue.

Looks like it is not an issue they wish to comment on, or perhaps given benefit of the doubt don't know the answer or are trying to find out for us.
Never mind, I've now got TRS2004 and my WIP route running satisfactorily on the new laptop so any plans to do a route for RS have been put firmly on the backburner until the New Year at least.

Without Distant Mountains any Alpine routes are out of the question - my MSTS Gotthard route has DM, and visually just wouldn't work if it didn't. There would be no sense of approaching a formidable mountain chain, no sense of narrowing valleys and soaring mountain ridges. DM has to work for anything other than routes in completly flat terrain or gently rolling hills to be believable.
