Uncoupling / Recoupling

I've made some progress and actually managed to create a new consist in the Ox-Pad Free Roam scenario.
I used the JustTrains Class 66 engines and the IWB Cargowaggons. BTW, they're super. And the explanation that came with them about how to place new assets into scenarios was the clearest I've come across. Bing, bang, done!
Anyway, I placed a coupled-set of Class 66 engines and two groups of 15 freight cars at Reading. I saved the scenario, quit RailSim, reopened the sim and ran the scenario. Everything worked fine. I coupled the engines to the first batch of waggons and then coupled this consist to the other batch of waggons and headed for Maidenhead. At Maidenhead I backed the entire consist into the parking area, uncoupled the engines, then took the engines alone down the line. After 10 minutes I decided to return to Maidenhead to pick up the cars I had dropped off.
When I tried to re-couple the engines to the parked batch of freight cars it simply wouldn't work. I have "Auto-couple" enabled in the preferences and tried a number of times at about 1 mph, but no go. I also tried Shift-Ctrl-C and that wouldn't work either. In the coupling pane of the Driver's Assistant, the batch of freight cars doesn't even appear. And, yes, the coupling mechanisms are the same (not US style). So, I'm at a loss about why I couldn't recouple to this batch of freight cars that I had no trouble connecting to when the scenario began at Reading station.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot.
