Scenarios and junction confusion

I've only been running RS for a week, so I have a lot to learn. But I have a question about scenarios and junction settings.

On the Return Ticket scenario on the Ox-Pad route, I was on the inbound run and maybe about 3 miles from Paddington. The scenario ended with a derailment because of a junction being set the wrong way. Is it not safe to assume that in the scenarios all junctions are properly set for the train to reach the destination? Or should I be checking every junction as I roll along through the scenarios?

I gotta admit that junctions are the things that bug me the most. How can you tell while rolling along at high speed if you're about to have a derailment or not?

Looking to learn and thanks guyz for your input.

Hi

You use the 2D map to check out the route ahead and change junctions by shift/click on the blue circles to change the junction direction. The blue line will show the active path.

There is a lot about this on the forum but also check out the videos and FAQ's on the official Rail Simulator site and the manual that can be found in the Rail Simulator folder.

Hi, Jev, and welcome to the forums! I hope you will enjoy yur stay here just as much as I have.

As regards your question, I must say that not all scenarios are the same. For example, in "shunting" scenarios, (those in which you must pick up and/or drop wagons at different locations), you usually have to use the 2d map ("9" key) to set the junctions. On the other hand, when driving a passenger service, the path is almost always set for you, but you must obey signals and try to stick to a timetable.

Anyway, practice makes perfect, and you will find the learning process quite enjoyable. :wink:

hi welcome, i know the point your talking about, there is a high speed train leaving paddington on that line, you will get a red before that junction, you must stop and wait for it to clear once the HST has past
