RS Problems

Post by Daffer »

Hi!

I downloaded the 08 add on, installed and then added to the Bath route, everything fine. When I was in the Newcastle route I thought I would add an 08 shunter. The 08 was not listed in the list of engines nor on the Oxford route. Thinking it has somehow got deleted I went back to the Bath route and there it is in the list. Now if Isambard had finished the line from Didcot to Bath I could drive one up, but there must be another way.

Another problem I have noticed, although I have the point handle icon selected, I do not get any handles on my points, they work OK but you have to select them from the HUD or the map.

Regards

Hi Daffer and welcome to the Forum,

You need enable the Assets (ie Rolling Stock) in the right side flyout in 'Edit' mode for the Rolling Stock to appear in that Route.

Load the Route you want the 08 to appear in (using 'Edit' mode) LMB click the blue cube with orange arrow in the left side mid flyout... then enable the originator of the item you want to add (RDSL, Kuju, kevmt, etc.) in the right side flyout - put a tick in the box.

The 08's will then appear in the left hand 'fly out' Rolling Stock menu.

Repeat on the next Route you want to run the 08.

Hope that makes sense.

Not all points are 'manual' some are automatic and have no points lever so you have to use the 2D map or key G (or Shift ky 'G' behind the Consist) to operate the points. Unless you are talking about Route building.

Hit the Objects Filter:

and in the r/h flyout, ensure RSDL, Railsimulator is checked.

Thanks guys that has the 08 into the routes, I am sure I did not do that when I installed the 08 to Bath route. The point handles do not appear on track that I have laid also I have not seen access to the ground level lights as seen in the route sidings.

Hi Daffer

When you are creating points you designate them as manual by checking the button in the bottom left flyout window. This puts a lever next to the junction which can be changed from the 2D map (shift/click on the blue circle) or you can click at the base of the lever in the game with your cursor and you will actually see the points change. This is great in a yard as you can walk around in real time changing the points yourself before going back to your loco to do your shunting.

Hi Geoff

For some reason my RS has stopped inserting handles. When I had it first it was OK then after problems I decided to re-install, to which I came to you for help earlier, now no handles. After I posted to the forum yesterday I was laying some track and a kind of point handle appeared, not the normal handle but a red and orange blob with a handle where the correct one should be. Is by any chance something running in the wrong mode? Up until then the points were just like the main line. I have the point handle icon checked on the fly out.

Hi Daffer

The orange levers suggest to me that you are using the wrong track rules and probably 'example'. Example Track and Track Rules are for people to play around with but are not intended to be used in a final route. Try using the 'All Track Rules' and the Bath/Templecombe track and you should see the difference. Generally you do not mix track rules within one route but you can use Bath/Templecombe Yard track rules for tighter bends in yards.

Hi Geoff

Yes that has fixed it. On the fly out I expected to find "all rules" but it was not there so I tried default, that did not work, so I went to Bath and used Bath track and that worked fine. I then used a trick I learnt on here to put the point handles on the track I had laid by splitting and welding.

Thanks for sorting me out again

Hi Daffer

I forgot that the All Track Rules is a free download from the Official Rail Simulator site. I would recommend that you get and use this until you get used to the effects of track rules a bit more. Using too many different rules in one network can cause problems later and has been blamed for missing track after packaging for distribution although I am not sure that anyone really knows what the actual problems are or are likely to be.
