Installing Rail Sim
I am running Vista on my computer and I successfully installed Rail Sim about a year ago. I had laid new track and everything was going fine until the other day I suddenly lost the new track although I could still run OK and locos I had added were still there albeit out in a field with no rails under them. I had done one or two things when building the new track I later wished were not there so I thought if I had to start again I would uninstall and reinstall. I just uninstalled the main software leaving the development tools and the Mk1 upgrade. Next, I can't reinstall, after inserting the code the screen cleared and that was it nothing more happened. I found on here someone else had this happen and were advised to save the disc to the desktop and open from there. I did that and could open Rail Sim and run OK. I noticed I did not have an icon on the desktop as before to click on to start, I had to put the disc in and wait for it to start on its own. Then when I went to modify some track I noticed the track symbol in the lefthand flyout was missing and eventually had an error message to say development tools were not available with this installation.
Could some kind soul put me right as I have'nt a clue what to do next

Re: Installing Rail Sim
Hi
Someone with Vista will probably give you more detailed instructions but my first thoughts are that you have to uninstall Rail Simulator using the original DVD uninstall utility and then install again adding the Mk1 upgrade first, then the Mk2 upgrade, then the developer tools - all in administrator mode for Vista.
Read the readme files that come with the Mk1 & Mk2 upgrades and also with the developer tools as there are specific instructions for each process. Also use the latest versions of these upgrades and tools from the official Rail Simulator website.
You will lose all previous work you have done on any routes though.

Re: Installing Rail Sim
As Geoff has said, you have to uninstall totally, so that means mk1 tools and everything by the uninstal utility - then re-instal RS DVD > Mk1 > Mk2 > latest DevTools.
If you have routes or stock you don't want to lose, then back up your "Assets & Content" directories first.

Hi Geoff and Basherz
I have been a while replying to your help because I have been testing my reinstalled RS. I could not find the latest development tools. I had it before and I can't remember where I downloaded it from. I have noticed some differences which are perhaps due to not having the dev tools. On F3 drivers aid, I used to have in free roam the forthcoming speed limits etc. now nothing. Incidently, is there a way to insert in the driver's aid one's destination in free roam, when it was working I used to get "destination unknown". Have you heard when the new Bulleid West Country class will be available?

Re: Installing Rail Sim
Hi Daffer
I am not sure about the missing information on the F3 HUD being related to the developer tools, this was corrected in the Mk1 upgrade.
The latest Developer Tools can be obtained from the official Rail Simulator website - look carefully on the site to spot the link.

Re: Installing Rail Sim
Hi Geoff and Basherz
I found the dev tools, I was going straight to the shop and bypassing the home page. Now after reinstalling and downloading the latest upgrades Mk1 and 2 and dev tools I was using the Rail Sim and all seemed OK, then I thought I would have an 08 shunter, so I downloaded that from Rail Sim but it will not install, I get the message apply the latest upgrade. Well, I have just downloaded them so what does it need?
Regards
Mike

Re: Installing Rail Sim
In this case you should contact the RSDL shop email via shop(AT)railsimulator.com ( just replace (AT) with @ ) and they should be able to help. Though you might not get a reply until monday.Daffer wrote:Hi Geoff and Basherz

For the moment the DevTools is a "goner" on the official site....clayton4115 wrote:hi

MK 1 and 2 are available.
But I hope for help soon to come.
