Hi Stephen

Your graphics card seems more than adequate but obviously the computer itself has a few problems.

I had my current PC built by a specialist and although it was not cheap, I have ready access to the builder if there are any problems. I will never purchase a PC from PC World again or any other large retailer as I do not think you get good value for money in the end and I also question the technical expertise offered.

I can assure you, however, that RS is a brilliant simulation on a well set up computer with all settings at max on a large monitor.

Good luck.

Hi Geoff
I'm going to be forced to do one of two things either upgrade the power supply on my new pc or alternatively build a pc myself.
Just to recap my pc is an Acer Veriton M464 it has a Pentium core 2 duo processor running at 2.6GHZ in addition to 2 gig of Ram and an on board GE Force 7050 graphics card my OS is Vista Business.
As previously mentioned the on board PSU is only 230 Watts which is low by any standards.
I am annoyed about this because I specifically informed the provider that I was intending to run games on the machine he said this will do and if it struggles at all you can always upgrade the graphics card hence buying a GE Force 9800 GT.
Which is currently sat in it's box un used.
Thanks once again to all who have tried to help me get to grips with the new sim.
By the way the frame rates i am getting range from 15 upto 27 fps.
I have got the sim on its default setting although Jay has advised that I may have to turn them down slightly.
On the Wombles route the ballast texturing especially at points flickers.
However the route itself is excellent I am really impressed with it.
Kind regards Stephen.
Ps I won't say on here where I bought my computer from because it would be inappropiate.
I have however written a letter of complaint to the vendor because I wass ill advised.

Hi Stephen

Just had a read through this post and I must say, a 230watt power supply, in general, is very low (I would generally expect the minimum to have been 300 but there you go :P). If you would like any advice component wise for replacement parts such as you say, the psu, feel free to ask :). The rest of the hardware you have seems very good so this would seem to be the only major replacement required. Just also to confirm, do you have a 9600gt or a 9800gt?

Hi Stephen

Keep at it. Getting the set up right is well worth it.

There is also an added bonus in that with the greater power used by the high spec graphics cards, you can turn down the central heating as the computer turns into a little fan heater!

Hi Graham and Geoff
To answer Grahams question the graphics card I purchased is a GE Force 9800GT and requires a minimum 450 Watts of power.
I'm debating buying the various parts having now purchased the graphics card mentioned to build a pc specifically for gaming.
Alternatively I could consider installing a new PSU in this machine Acer Veriton M464.
One thing I'm not quite sure about is whether the case on the Veriton uses the ATX form factor that tends to be used on a DIY set up?
Jay advised that if I go down the DIY route to consider buying a bundle ie motherboard and processor together etc.
I am on a limited budget because unfortunately I'm on the sick due to ill health.
Thanks to all who have offered advice and support.
I have been happily exploring the Wombles route I can't speak highly enough about this route.
There are plenty of possibilities for placing consists in the various yards etc
One thing I never noticed in MSTS were canals and in the Wombles route one of the first bridges you cross is over a canal.
This also adds interest as most people who have an understanding of railways knows thast canals pretty much run alongside or near to a railway line.
Thanks again guys kind regards Stephen.

I've just had a look up for that computer and the case itself is micro ATX factor, so the motherboard itself is most certainly micro ATX aswell.

Hi Graham
Thanks for this info
I now intend to save my pennies and buy all the components needed to build a pc specifically for gaming.
This just proves the point about being very careful about ordering via mail order.
Thanks again Graham kind regards Stephen.
