Quick ? re: creating routes

One thing that constantly confuses (and worries) me is that when I want to create a new route from scratch Im not totally sure from the instructions where to start.. I seem to be given the option to change a route that exists (which worries me as I assume I will destroy the scenarios that exist or end up corrupting something)..

Im dying to get started on this side of the software but am slightly lost.. How do I simply start with a blank canvas and start making a route?

when you click to create new route you are given a selection of route templates to start with, these are only settings that will apply to the new route, this will set where in the world you will start, textures, etc. if your creating a real world route it is worth creating your own route template, try the route building forum on how to do this
