Mysterious disappearing steam locos!!

I find that all the diesel locos are available for use on my own-designed route, but when I try to place a steam loco, all I get are the front and rear couplings - with an empty space in between! HELP...What's happening here? I would be most grateful for any help with this.

P.S. I find that all steam locos have disappeared even from the built-in routes (eg. S&D).

Hi Stuart

My first thought is to ask if you are sure that all developer files are ticked in the Object Selection Window. Click on blue/orange cube in middle left window in edit mode. Make sure all developer names are ticked in the right hand window, especially RSDL and KUJU.

I have also experienced the missing loco bodies but for some reason I just waited and they finally appeared. This only happened on the first time of loading that loco and then no problems after that. It also seemed to happen when loading from a different route such as loading a US loco from the Cajon Pass add-on into my own or another UK default route. It seems that it needs time to kick start the process of rendering the loco and then once done, the program remembers what it did.

Many thanks for your reply.
I do have all the developer files ticked.
On re-starting the sim this morning, I went to one of the default scenarios of the S&D route, and still there is only the tender - no steam loco visible. When I press '1', I do get the inside of the cab.
This is a mystery as I said at the outset - why have I lost just the steam engines, but not the diesels, electrics, or even the engine tenders, I wonder?
I'd be most grateful for any further ideas!

Hi Stuart,
This has happened to me when the textures can't be found but is usually on downloaded third party loco's or wagons that I have not installed properly. Have you made any major alterations to your installation or installed any new third party Routes, Scenarios or Models recently. You could also try deleting the relevant blueprints.pak file.

Thanks to everybody for giving comments on this odd occurrence.
I have actually re-installed KRS, and then used a backup I have been keeping on an external HDD of the entire railsim folder to overwrite the railsim folder as installed, and bingo! - everything's back to normal. I'm a steam fan really, and so am glad to get the lovely Black 5s etc. back up and running, and my own (steam era) route I'm building back to normal.

Hi Stuart

Very happy to hear that you are back to normal. I always back up the whole Rail Simulator Folder and find that if there are problems, deleting the faulty folder and replacing it with the last known working version usually does the trick. I usually back-up before starting a new building session and keep about 10 saves in hand to go back to with every 10th save saved again as a longstop back-up. When you have spent the hours I have building a route, you cannot have too many backups!

When something happens with my route or Rail Simulator my first question is what have I done this time? It is quite worrying when things suddenly disappear or stop working.
