I am working on creating my own route at the moment, and wish to save it to an external HDD as a backup. I found out the numerical 'name' of the route from 'Kick Start', and saved that folder (Prog Files\Rail Sim\Content\Routes\Numerical file name).
My question is: Do I have to save any other folders, to ensure I have all the data in connection with my new route?
Many thanks,
Stuart.
If you are creating a route that you want to share with others, then you need to set up your own developer folder as described in the support document 208b - Route Blueprints Freeware before you start building the route and create your own route blueprint. I suggest you read the support documents and trawl the forums before you get too far into your route as there are a few things you need to know! If you do not intend to share your route then it can stay in the default location allocated to it by Rail Simulator when you created it through the front end menus.
Normally it is only necessary to back up the Assets folder, the Content folder and the Source folder (if you have created your own developer folder).
I usually back up the whole of the Rail Sim folder, however, as I have found that as long as you back up a working version of Rail Simulator, you can replace the whole Rail Sim folder if a problem occurs. It takes about 15 minutes to back up the whole file to an external USB hard disk on my computer.
