Derail problems

I have just purchased RS and am just running Free Route at the moment. So far I have had 3 derailments, all caused by junctions set against my train. This sort of thing never happens in good old MSTS, so what does it mean. I managed to get from Evercreech New to Bath successfully, but I can't seem to get beyond Didcot from Oxford even if I don't touch any switches. I guess I just haven't learned how to interpret the pictorially presented route information yet.

Also, how do I disoplay the frame rate, and what is this upgrade I see mentioned. I have the US version BTW.

John.

Hello,

press 9 to show the 2 d map. Use mouse wheel to zoom in and out in that map. Click on train icon bottom right corner to make map follow train or move the map around yourself. In that last mode hold the right mouse button and move mouse to move the map. Use left mouse button to create a rectangle as another way to zoom in.
Now, all of this is about the blue line that you see starting from your train. That blue line is your path. The blue circles are the controls of the junctions (switches). Hold shift key and left click on the first blue circle that is along your blue line (path). shift left Click again. See the blue line changing back and forth as junction changes position?
Now, use that technique to create yourself a path to where you want to be and then drive. press 9 again to revert to the 3d world. Succes

Upgrade mark 1 you see mentioned at http://www.railsimulator.com fixes most of the derailment problems on trailing point switches. I say "most" because some people have reported occasional derailments still happening, and I experienced two myself since adding the patch. Most of the time with the patch it forces the points open if they're set against you, and makes it easier to see the player path in the 2D map since it removed the fat bright red and yellow path tracers.

Another problem for the unwary are the green and yellow colourings of lines in sidings and platforms. You sometimes have to move along to the other end to see where the blue path line emerges.

That information is all very helpful Thanks.

One other thing; I mentioned that I had the US version. The users' guide from Electronic Arts makes no mrntion of a frame rate counter, but I guessed it would be the same as in MSTS. I am running the game on a wide screen (17") HP laptop which has an Nvidia graphics card, but not one of the Geforce (sp?) series. I was a little worried that it wouldn't do a good job with RS, However, in the S&D today it was fluctuating rapidly between 17 and 25, averaging about 20 fps. I find this quite satisfactory. Now, if I could find a driver that will eliminate those pesky white triangles that come with Vista
