Raising large areas of terrain quickly

I had spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to raise large areas of terrain from sea level to 100 metres etc., and a query 'in another place' (the official Railsim site) brought the response that it can be done without using the Dev tools, but didn't say how! I have now sussed one way of doing it, but I suspect it might not be the easiest way!
Select the terrain brush in the top tools frame. Select the 'undulations' tool in the middle frame, and look for the 'defines height above sea level' button in the bottom frame (it doesn't appear for all of the terrain tools). Select that and change the height value and then sweep slowly around the area you want raised. It will be undulating to an alarming degree! Then select the 'smooth terrain' tool and slowly go over it all again. This brings the terrain down quite a few meters, so I had to do those two procedures two or three times to achieve the right height. After that the terrain will still need to be adusted and smoothed in small areas as you lay track and scenery etc, but the big job has been done at least fairly quickly
Does anyone know of a quicker easier way of doing it please?.
