Come and get a makeover

Post by rabid »

I always thought the default rails looked a little "chunky" so I've been playing about.

Feeling a little rusty? These may help...

:)

This pack has three benefits...

1. ALL UK/DE/US rails have a slightly finer, more realistic appearance by subtle improvements to the rail surface. Some tracks have a more subdued rail surface depending upon their intended use (yards etc).

2. Several new RUSTY rail variants are added to all route types. By this I mean that each default route has one or two rusty rail tracks available (this won't change track on existing routes but can be added).

3. Modifications to US tracks include the above and also...
- Fixes the missing buffer stops where necessary
- Fixes the Yard tracks to make use of all the textures provided by Kuju (in addition to YARD and YARD SLACK, there is now YARD NEW)
- Better choice of switches for the yard tracks

This pack is suitable for the European and US versions of Rail Simulator.

Sneak peek

Post by rabid »

Here's a sneak peek at the rail textures coming in v1.2, for the S&D route.
I've toned down the orangey colour down to a more realistic nuance (using photos for reference).
I think they look better.

Amazing stuff! Makes the routes a lot more realistic. Which track rule is the rusty rails under?

By the way... someone told me you can have only one track rule per route. I'm currently running about 3 with some custom rules for unique track items around the NYMR route I'm building.

To be honest Dave I just use the default rule with all the track in!
If someone fancies knocking up a track rule to include the rusty track that would be great. :)

Concerning 3rd party routes...

The pack improves the look of the default track. Any routes that have default track will benefit from this, but the pack is not required. However if you add the rusty track to any of your routes, any person installing your route will require the DTM pack to see the rusty track, as these are new. This would be the case with any new scenery item, be it track, fences, houses etc.

The reason for this is that I didn't want to change any of the default track directly to rusty as that would have very likely put rusty track in unsuitable places on the original KRS routes. In the next version of DTM I will provide separate installers so that the rusty track can be installed without having to install the whole pack. :)

v1.2 is up and awaiting approval.

The S&D rails have been toned down (as shown above) and the Gen Yard Track 01/02 rails have been toned up as I found those way too dark. There are now two separate installers for the default and rusty tracks. I was not able to create installers for each route as some of the tracks use rails from other routes etc.

Before installing v1.2, run "RestoreOrigs.bat" and delete the "Default Track Makeover" folder from 1.1. :)

Just a "heads up" to let you know that v1.3 is up for grabs. This adds the all-important track rules that I should have put in from the start (sorry ). The nomenclature of the "rusty" track rules matches the default rules, but of course contain only the rusty track. For example "Oxfo Padd DefaultTR" now has a corresponding "Oxfo Padd DefaultTR Rusty".
