Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
RailSimulator dead? Not at all, not on my laptop anyway.
Why would it be dead? I have a very nice collection of GWR and LMS steam locos, two BR diesels, two very nice HSTs, BR Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, coaches, GWR non-corridor coaches, and a good selection of old fashioned goods wagons and brake vans. I am creating my own fictional route to my own vision of a Virtual Railway at the transition from steam to diesel. I cooperate with RS's limitations to achieve my own enjoyable ends.
Just because RSDL has stopped development of RS doesn't mean that they are preventing me from continuing to enjoy what I have on my computer now.
I hope that other enthusiasts who have decided to stay with RS will continue to create scenery and rolling stock assets for themselves and may be good enough to make them available for us to download and enjoy on this site. An LNWR signal box has already appeared for us to download today, many thanks to that creator.
I have not upgraded to RW myself because I do not want to get involved with the Steam online Service. My own decision for various reasons.
I hope that we RS users will be able to keep this section of the forum active and interesting. The RW users are criticising RW already, but we won't be able to criticise RS any more as we are accepting RS as it is and enjoying it as it is.
Yes there is a future for RS. Only those people who are constantly wanting something new all the while will be jumping off the ship and going elsewhere for their gamesplaying.
regards Ted.

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Hi Ted,
I agree with all you say. I have no intention of leaving RS for RW for a number of reasons. Having read all that is available about RW and Steam, the tales of woe etc, has begun to bore me.
Those that have signed up to steam and those ready to purchase will have to accept RW for what it is. They are going to say its the best thing since slice bread but only because they are stuck with it.
Regards
Mike

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
I have given up on RW as I cannot get it to run so have re-installed RS which works perfectly. Fortunately for me I downloaded most of the free stuff that was on there site but it's annoying how RS has been dropped, they dont even seem to be that interrested in supporting RW. If RS content can be converted into RW, does anybody know if the same can be done the other way round.

Half of them will say the opposite, don't worry.RiscaStation wrote:Those that have signed up to steam and those ready to purchase will have to accept RW for what it is. They are going to say its the best thing since slice bread but only because they are stuck with it.
RW scenarios can use scenario-specific markers. There are not supported in KRS.lwaxl00 wrote:If RS content can be converted into RW, does anybody know if the same can be done the other way round.
There is a new glass shader (only relevant for rolling stock).
Routes and scenarios lost the stupid central XML file that everyone corrupted. So you need to take the bits of information out of the new local substitute file in RW and paste it into the old central one in KRS.
Other than that, there is no issue. 99% stayed the same.

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
I want to keep RS on my trial computer but when I try to load the development tools it that I saved, it stated the 'version is not compatable', I thought it only said that if it was not a fresh download, so saved downloads will not work.. and we cannot get a fresh download of the dev tools.

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
This error is more related to the installation sequence of DevTools and the two patches. Depending on when you downloaded them, you need to install them before or after Mk2. Unfortunately, I don't remember the details, but you find loads of posts about it on these forums, which Matt is nice enough to still maintain.
Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Found it ok now..What I did was to go to the Railsimulator.com site and download updates 1 and 2 they loaded in ok and as update 2 has the devtools I did not have to load them..
working good..
working good..
Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Hello,
I still have my old copy of Rail Simulator installed and am not removing it just because I have got RailWorks, not that I made very much but it is nice to have all the same.
Thanks
Bill

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Well I am keeping my RS on my computer as well as MSTS, if I get RW I will run all 3.
I think as RS routes etc can be converted to RW I will continue to create routes in RS as then those who cannot afford RW will still have a good go.

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
I'm going back to RS, I'm obviously nuts, but I prefer it, it does what I want it to do most of the time, I have had little enjoyment out of railworks apart from the new stock, I'll be happy if I can use them in RS.

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Hi Everyone
Hopefully RS isn't dead?
It is just a shame it was so hastily cast to one side.
For as long as there is community support for RS I don't think it is dead at all
There are several members who have said that they will not change to Railworks, unless there is an alternative to steam dependencies.
If you are enjoying Rail Simulator why abandon it?
I think generally speaking it is pretty stable I have always made sure it is regularly backed up etc
Yes it has it's flaws but overall is still a good simulator.
Kind regards Stephen

Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
Until 17 July you can still take advantage of RS.com's promotional offer to buy RW at half price. If you got RS cheap then you'll end up with both for less that you would have paid for RW at retail.I wish i'd read this thread last week as i've just bought rail simulator and now feel somewhat cheated
Re: Is Railsimulator Dead?
As per my first impressions posted in the RW forum, assuming nothing untoward happens I am stepping any future route building plans up to RW and drawing a line under any further development in RS. I also think the line up of new stuff coming out for RW - the UK steam locos being just one example - should pretty much clinch it, much more scope for scenarios and general variety than what will be left in RS.
And I have to say, if you can get RW for the upgrade price it is worth it for the new motive power (Class 37, F7 and V200) and routes alone.
