I use Firefox 99% of the time so perhaps that is why I have not had any problems. It is very good for ftp site access though which Firefox cannot do (yet).

No corrupted routes.xml files with RailWorks - there aren't any!

Funnily enough, I have been using IE since about v2 and have never had any problems with it, I installed Firefox because my son uses it and never could get on with it. IE8 is great, if you go to a foreign site, just open IE8 in widescreen, go to the Page menu and select Translate and you get the German and English versions side by side, great for downloads from European trainsim sites.

Now that we will have no more Routes.xml files, they will have had to rewrite Package Manager so that it does not check said file, so looks like we will need two different ones, one for people who still use RS and another for those with RW?

Thanks for the responses, they make very interesting reading and have put my mind at ease.

In my case, I did recently accept IE 8 as an automatic upgrade (I had previously been experiencing no problems with .rpk file downloads with IE 7) so this is probably the cause. Can I state that there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of these downloads, it just seems to be the way IE 8 is choosing to handle the downloaded .rpk files by changing them to a Zip file instead of leaving them as a.rpk file.

What seemed strange to me was that I downloaded 'Container of Water Scenario for Oxford to Paddington' and '0553 Didcot to Didcot' Scenario's at the same time as the ones I had a problem with, but they downloaded as the usual zip files which when unzipped produced the .rpk file and .jpg files. I noticed that the problem zips are different and have the 'ADD' and 'DELETE' icons 'greyed' out (at least with Winrar).

I think this is where I think you have nailed it on the head, looking at the File Library the Scenario's files (by jetgriff (J Griffiths), Ghostcav (Shane Owen) and others) that give me the problem with IE 8 have been uploaded into the Library as .rpk files and they have not been zipped (as the other Scenario's have). If all Uploaded .rpk files to the Library are zipped, this may sort out this problem.

I wonder if Matt (if he reads this) would consider Posting a reminder on the Front Page asking RS Uploaders to 'Zip' their .rpk files when uploading to the UKTS Library and then avoid this problem, especially as Microsoft are offering at the moment IE 8 as a 'automatic' upgrade and it could affect more Simmers downloading .rpk files.

Anyway a big thankyou to John and Mike for sorting out this problem, as I'm sure others will experience it as they take IE 8 on board and hope that this Post helps others that experience a similar situation to me, sort it out.

Having checked IE8 tools there is no folder options on the drop down list.
However I changed the file name ending in zip to rpk and it seemed to work, but I don't fancy having to do it every time.

What Sniper was referring to was explorer, by changing what he suggested when looking at files in a folder by default the file name does not include the file extension. By making the change it will and then it is easier to rename the file extension to the correct one.

Common confusion, Billy Billionaire renamed Windows File Manager to "Windows Explorer", then called the browser "Internet Explorer" most computer newbies don't know there are two different programs. Lower left corner (on WIN95 thru WinXP, dunno about Vista) Click the START button, then ALL PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, near the bottom of that is Windows Explorer, "Displays files and folders on YOUR computer" (not on the internet, Internet Explorer does that!).
