RW Feature Update

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Sorry, where does it mention about the reduced price for existing users?

Pre-order promotions aint price reduction. It's Promotion :D

Will I have to spend £30.00 buying a new copy of RailWorks?
Although we are still finalizing the pricing structure for RailWorks, we will offer existing users of Rail Simulator the opportunity to upgrade for a very modest price.

Just tried to clean out a mistake, that i've seen several times on this board..

You dont have to be owner of RS, if you wants promotions. All you have to do, is sign up on railsimulator.com before 1. June.
My quote was takes from a press release some days/weeks before.

So i want something. I want price reduction AND promotions :D

Nice feature list! These features I'd love to see someday:

1. Real weather, just like Flightsim series, have weather updated in real time when possible/desirable and also have the ability to change the weather on the fly. Improving the weather effects and looks should be part of this.

2. Dynamic Scenarios. Pick a route, and within that route choose a start point and a destination and let the program automatically do the grunt work with regards to ai traffic etc. Maybe even add sub-menus where greater configuration parameters can be set, so if you want to setup your train by choosing the type of service, then loco and finally rolling you should be able to do so, or perhaps even set this to random. Along with either other random or user selected variables I think this would really add to the sim

Look at it this way, you wont have to pay for any more versions of Rail Simulator as I'm sure this will be the last one seeing as they are going to continuously develop from the RailWorks platform in free updates via the Steam technology.

They didnt say, that it was for free??

And there could still come some major changes, that needs a whole new version of RW.

Updates are free as far as I know. And I highly doubt they will need to re-release it due to changes.

Indeed, the major point of this release was to beat the code into shape so they could move forwards with it. All the graphical improvements and new routes/locos are just bunting to appeal to the magpies (they like shiny things!). Those who want a solid platform which can provide the possiblity for all the improvements we can eat in the future can be far more excited about the undertones of all the announcements up to now rather than the actual specifics.

Valenta17 wrote:Sounds good, like the sound of dynamic steam, also liking the sound of headcodes, destination boards and namplates on locos! :D
I would be even happier if they did dynamic clag and sorting out the rear HST powercar sound issue. :D
Headcodes for UK locos have been a feature of RS_Tools for some months now, this option was also usable for Nameboards, looks like they have been out looking for ideas?

All sounds very promising, but I am a little concerned with 'steam'. How do those of us running RS on PC's not connected to the internet go on? :-?

Buy the DVD, then download the manual updates. Steam will just be a) a lot easier, and I suspect b) probably released quicker.

Hi

Can someone explain Steam in simple terms and how does this work on any computer the account holder is using?
How do we manage our routes and other content in progress, where are they stored?
etc,
