Hi Mart, as you have updated the BIOS, did you tell it to reload with default settings after the update then re-input your old settings? If not it is possible that the settings have not written in properly. Do the BIOS reset routine (power off - take out battery - put clear cmos jumper across for 30 secs. put jumper back across - put battery back in then power up). Go back into BIOS then put everything back to how you want it - make sure onboard sound is not ticked but don't let vista start until you have reset it all, or vista might not recognise your computer!!!!!

Re: Black screen of death
Hi Mark, yes i had done all those things, but there is still this annoying sound problem where as before the bios update which was for quad core cpu's i was using, had none of these sound problems? after a search on the internet i found some forum where i am not alone in this problem concerning Asus and Creative!

Hi, Have you set the hpet to on? I think it is in either the cpu or power areas of BIOS.

Is the sound card PCI or PCI express? If it is PCI - Have you tried it in another slot where it is not sharing an IRQ?

Hi Mark it's an extreme gamer pro fatal1ty, i have tried it in the other pci slot! It doesn't work on xp at all even though i have installed the drivers the system is telling me there are no drivers installed? But it works in Vista (well after a fashion) so i dont know what is going on, checked the drive with dskchk that comes up clean defragged done all the usual stuff, i think iv'e got a bad case of the gremlins?

Well it's either a new mobo or soundcard for me, suspect the mobo would be cheapest option, but a pain to install compared with a new soundcard! But i don't want creative anymore it's hacked me off!
EDit: BTW if anyone else is having x-fi sound issues under Vista then see here for modded drivers by Daniel_K http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownlo ... 79110.html click on the download locations mirror tab not the download vista drivers tab as that will take you to another site which does not apply!
