Re: Am confused RW lunch date
On a slightly different note, I've just been looking at the box artwork on Rainforest and if I were at RS.com I might just be a tad worried that the game/sim title and initial presentation does not convey a very clear impression of what it's about. It may be this is just a placeholder image until the box art is finalised, but to me the bare title "Railworks" to those not in the know is more likely to suggest a transport strategy game. Maybe the title should read and be printed on the box - "Railworks - Train Simulator and World Builder" so that potential new users see what it's all about. Otherwise the uninitiated are likely to think it's another Locomotion or Railroads and either ignore it or buy it and find it's not the strategy game they were expecting.
I have to say though, the Black Five on the cover is much more classy than the garish and contorted HST on the original RS so full marks on that.

It's no joke, because I don't have the knowleged between Rainforest and any artwork of Railworks.
And its getting difficult here for "older" people like me

Rainforest is "slang" for Amazon. Jersey Outfit is Play.com. Guess I've been hanging out at Overclockers UK too much where you have to mention potential competitors to their own shop in code.
Anyhow here is a link to the DVD version on Play.

Re: Am confused RW lunch date
I am 100% sure that this is a placeholder image. I does not even have a DVD-box shaped format (or is my vision skewed?) It is even worse than what Vern hinted at - with RailWorks being the only word on the box, no one will have any idea at all. Engines are not made in rail works. Given the amount of sick stuff piled on games shops, I doubt it would attract interest if everyone think "What the hell is in that case?".

Re: Am confused RW lunch date
Perhaps they worry that if the words 'rail' and 'simulator' appear on the box, that people will develop a stammer in the eye?

Would that be for the boxed version or icky Steam download version though?
It will be worth keeping an eye on the various on-line companies as the price may drop before release (notice Game haven't as yet got it listed so I could use my Reward points).

Re: Am confused RW lunch date
I am confused. I hope you can answer a few of these questions:
- Whats better to do, buy off steam (if you can) or buy from Play.com?
- If pre-ordering from play.com, will I still get the pre-order promotions?
- Is buying the game from play.com for £10 less the discount for current RS1 users?
- Will I get any discount/pre-order promotion from buying off Steam at all?
- Can you pre-order direct from RS.com, or does it take you to another site like play.com?
Some of these questions might have already been asked, or might not make sense. But if you could make your best efforts to help answer them, id be extremely grateful. Thanks.

Depends whether you prefer a hard copy of the game or digital download delivery.
If pre-ordering from play.com, will I still get the pre-order promotions?
Unlikely as this appears to apply to direct registration with RS.com only.
Is buying the game from play.com for £10 less the discount for current RS1 users?
That is Play's (and Amazon) markdown on the full RRP.
Will I get any discount/pre-order promotion from buying off Steam at all?
Not known but possibly only via the RS.com pre reg system.

Unknown until RS.com set up the live shop but I would have thought they will be selling direct or via a supplier who is not selling at under the RRP. We don't even know whether RS.com will be offering both the DVD and download version.
It might be in their interests to review the RRP for the public version though (i.e. downward)!

Re: Am confused RW lunch date
I guess the idea is that not even them take the RRP serious. They said initially that the price will be £30, now the RRP is £40 but the initial offering is £30, so in the end it is sold for £30 to new customers. Considering that KRS 1 had the same price tag initially, I don't find that too surprising. And since the same traditional retail players are in the game again, you can bet that everyone who is afraid to loose all his money needs nothing more than a few months of patience. If RSC would only sell via their own webshop, I would expect stable prices like for the addons, but with play.com & co. there is no way around price drops.bigvern wrote:It might be in their interests to review the RRP for the public version though (i.e. downward)!
