Interesting conundrum re the 37 then as there may be some original RS "hold-outs" who would quite like to use it on their routes but this will only be possible by upgrading to Railworks... It would make commercial sense at least so far as the UK market is concerned to offer a separate standalone version for RS(1).steve1023 wrote:This question was answered by RSDL on their website http://www.railsimulator.com/en/node/5990 towards the bottom of the page. Nice 37.

Re: Railworks screenshots
It has been mentioned that we who have RS1 shouldn't expect a discount for RS2 and references to other games are mentioned, that may be but the first release of that game wasn't flawed or broken, my copy of RS is broken because it doesn't do what it said on the tin at release, even now errors creep in after several months of using the sim normaly? I have been making scenarios for the Isle of white and i am trying to make scenario part 3 however sound files are going "missing" there are no drivers or steam effects? or sound effects for several different locomotives except for Invincible? Even the passenger view in DT's Mk1 coaches have "gone"? They have just dissapeared, so yes if RS1 didn't have these anomalies and errors which creep in over time i would say yep ok i don't mind paying £40 quid for RS2 but as it stands RS1 has problems which make any enjoyment in making scenarios, in my case, a pain in the derrier and no fun except frustration and banging of one's head against the nearest hard object, no one from RSDL could tell me why these things happen just repeating the same question "what am i doing"? and i say using the sim normally, but that doesn't compute it has to be something i am doing, well if setting player and Ai consists with instructions is doing something wrong then what else could i be doing that the sim doesn't like? I will have the discount please if that's ok with everybody.

Re: Railworks screenshots
On the contrary, RS.com have said there will be a discount for RS users upgrading to RW.
If the discount, new content and functionality and a desire to sponsor the further development of RS all fail to persuade you to buy RW, bear this in mind. Although it seems RS content will be upwards compatible to RW, the reverse will likely not be the case in areas affected by the new patches, and new content releases will likely specify RW as a minimum requirement. In particular, I'm guessing scenarios developed in RW may not work on RS.

Viewing the "Full Image" it gives a size of 1600x1024.TheTazman wrote:@ Derek, What resoloution is that taken at please?

It's not just you, it seems that the constant switching between the world editor / scenario editor and "playtesting" your route in the game confuses the dispatcher and when you return signals show red for no reason when they were green at the same point before, etc, etc... Hard restarting the programme seems to fix that but then that becomes a massive bind with the headbanging involved.i would say yep ok i don't mind paying £40 quid for RS2 but as it stands RS1 has problems which make any enjoyment in making scenarios, in my case, a pain in the derrier and no fun except frustration and banging of one's head against the nearest hard object, no one from RSDL could tell me why these things happen just repeating the same question "what am i doing"?
So, without being negative if Railworks can fix this issue (i.e shoddy dispatcher / pathing problems / etc.) then it'll be worthy of spending out on it. Graphics improvements don't really bother me too much as I started my gaming life on a Spectrum 16k and learnt that it's gameplay that really counts, and simulators need to be as accurate as possible to call themselves a "Simulator".
I'd love to see an official "fix list" though... *hint* *hint* (I don't see why Railsim.com need to be secretive over this, unless, well.... [conspiracy theories start here]
Re: Railworks screenshots
No need for any conspiracy theories! Derek has already said in the Railsimulator.com forum "We will release a full list of what has been updated once all updated code and content have been through testing."AndyM77 wrote:.........I'd love to see an official "fix list" though... *hint* *hint* (I don't see why Railsim.com need to be secretive over this, unless, well.... Makes sense to me for them to check that they can deliver what they think they can before going public.

Re: Railworks screenshots
Hi,
Despite all the concerns I do wish people would exercise a little patience and wait for more information on the new version to be released.
When the content is known and the purchase price given only then will you be able to make a sound decision on its worth.
Regards
Mike

Re: Railworks screenshots
ITs nice to see a well worked engine. Would like to see it from the other side tho. But still looks great.

Re: Railworks screenshots
As much as I like the new screenshots-a-day, I have to say the past few have been a bit lack luster. I remember when the first shots were shown, it was great, but recent ones I've just looked at and moved on. The WOW factor seems to be lacking. When is Rail Works due out?
