Railworks screenshots

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

To paraphrase RSDL/RS.com for the past few months...
"This time round, everyone will get the same version to avoid the issues of last time"

I've been a pretty vocal supporter of RS.com and where they want to take RW eventually, even if it's beginnings are just RS+. And I know marketing, yadda yadda, but I REALLY don't think this is good idea before we've even started.

"Hey, did you try that awesome new scenario by XYZ?"
"Nope, I bought the DVD version so I don't have the right stock. Hoping they'll release them in 6 months for everyone like they did with the Game ones last time"

:-?
I agree - not a good idea at all but who are we to question this?

Pete,

Look on the bright side. It might mean that RW is clever enough not to go throw its legs in the air when you try to run a scenario with stock that you don't have but instead responds by asking which of the installed stock you'd like to use instead :D . If not then I bet the support team will have few choice words for the marketing men! Something to do with own foot and shooting perhaps?

I very rarely criticise RSDL/railsimulator.com but making a loco exclusive to a Steam download is not my idea of fairness. I suspect that the hassle involved with people contacting support asking where the loco is on their DVD or for download from the official website will be more trouble than it is worth and it would have been better to make the loco available to all.

I think this is a very bad idea indeed and not a good start.

I thought it was just a reskin of one of the locos from the Cajon Pass route, now included in RW?

I agree with you, it appears to not be very well thought through. This livery was actually supplied with RS1 too so not much of an incentive to purchase the steam version anyway.

I wonder what other steaming incentives are in the pipeline. :(

We are the customers who buy and spend the money.
We are people who think.
If we stop thinking we have no life anymore or are dead.
The quality of our thoughts does not matter,
because we are all humans and we should respect each other.
A certain quality can be found in our own judgement and own experience.

The nose looks a bit longer I think.

I don't know which version of RS you had, but only UP liveried SD40-2's were included in the US version and the UK Cajon Pass add on.
It's with the US / Cajon Pass add on just for some reason its not implemented in game, I uploaded a fix for this it's for download on this site: http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info. ... leid=18726

Their customers...

This combined with the thinly veined barbs about terrain texturing on the tech's latest blogs (if it is so easy to get new textures in game then how come after 2 years they are no publicly available 3rd party texture sets and why aren't the new textures in RW?) make me feel like not bothering at all with Railworks now. In fact having just reinstalled RS in readiness I think it will be coming off again. I would rather put up with TRS losing my routes occasionally than this marketing, manipulated excuse for a simulator.

I may be upset about the broken promise of the same content for everyone, and feel particularly let down by this approach but it will not stop me from using an enjoying RailWorks. My support may now be just that less enthusiastic than before, that is all.

Because no one has been sufficiently interested enough in producing new textures to put their head down and work out how to do it?

I did have a shot at this and I found creating textures for a new texture set in your own developer folder is fine, but it is not possible to add textures to an existing textures blueprint without the source file for it which to my knowledge the kuju texture blueprint source file was not released.

The basic RW will be the same for steam and retail versions. So i dont understand the whining.
They also stated, that you had to register to railsimultor.com BEFORE 1.june. If you registered after that date, you most likely wont get any promotion. But some does have more than others. Just like them, who bought some payware somewhere else. But RW will basicly be the same for all.
