RS Worries

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

BP :D
Personally I think this is the end of 'The Series Of Significant Announcements'.

We have a new version on the way.

They are keeping 'stumpf', because no matter what they provide, we will moan about it anyway.

I'm sure it will be in the right direction. Just use the steering wheel on that 37!

Derek how can you say not to worry about RS? I have spent close to a hundred pound on the game add ons (Voyager,158,66, Soundpacks from Armstrong Powerhouse and time downloading patches and stuff. I think people like Armstrongpowerhouse can charge a fiver for things because there is so little out there for this sim. And if it was not for their stuff they made I would have uninstalled this game months ago. I aint saying the freeware stuff is not good but I don't like having to download all the extra stock.

Rich Garber, who I suspect knows more than most of us about RS plans, recently gave a cogent explanation of the commercial drivers behind RS:RW over at trainsim.com - viz getting RS out of the discount bin and uniting the US and European versions.

Rich tagged RS:RW as an RS Gold edition. From all I've heard that's a much better description than calling it RS2, so don't get your hopes too high.

However I don't think this is the end of the significant announcements. It's clear that RS have been working on other content for some time - remember the 4F they showed us at Xmas.

My snip of the opinion is:

To be honest I think RS is very stable, I can see a good future in it and I don't see there is anything to be worried about. I don't mind buying upgrades, (I mean I have very Trainz edition apart from UTC) as long as there not too expensive. I would be happy with the 30 pounds but 40 could be pushing it. (I'm not 100% sure about RS2 price). I mean end of the day RSDL need there pay cheque. About 10,000+ people have this game across the world, If everyone who has the game gave 10 pounds to RSDL thats 10,000 x 10 = 100,000 pounds...Not bad...Now if everyone bought the RS2 upgrade at 30 pounds... :o :o :o

Cheers,
Mike

Whilst I'm very apprehensive and skeptical about RW and claims its gonna be the cats pajamas,if I make a purchase (and it does not deliver)say the AI is still the weakest link, will I be entitled to my money back.?

I think you might have a case if they claimed that AI had been fixed in RW, but at the end of the day unless you could get Trading Standards interested it would probably come down to how much you could afford to pay for a lawyer!

However I've yet to see any publicity about what has been fixed in RW so I wonder if there are still more announcements to come or whether they are playing safe and keeping quiet about bug fixes?

Hi Everyone
I have to say involving trading standards and even lawyers is a total over reaction in my opinion
Won't it just be better to sit tight and wait for the official announcements and release of RW?
I personally speaking have enjoyed Rail Simulator and I look forward to Rail Works being released.
Kind regards Stephen

This all seems so strange to me,I think we all want the game to succeed,Ive asked countless times if the AI has been fixed on there own forums RSAdam replied "This is a bug in the dispatcher that we are currently working to fix." (18th March 2009),so has it been fixed in time for RW,To be honest I would pay 40 quid for RW if the only thing in it was a fix,but at the moment as RS dont seem to want to say to much about the inner workings Im going to wait for a couple days after release to find out if the AI has been cured of creeping trains ect.

I don't see the FSX community complaining like this; and they can spend up to £60 on one add-on! Getting kind of boring now. :morning:

Stephen,

Read what I said about lawyers etc again and relax :D , they have not yet been called in! I was only responding to a hypothetical question regarding a refund if RW didn't live up to tads1970's expectations.

... and there was me thinking that the users of rail simulators were more forgiving of the second rate than the Flight Sim community! If an addon aircraft were as unrealistic, and I'm not talking about eye candy, as some of the traction in certain rail simulators, there would be an outcry on the forums whether it cost £6 or £60!

If that is the total revenue for the total RS product life cycle I'd hate to see Derek's and Adam's pay packets. We are lucky to get RW.
