S&D Modern (The Fictional version!!)

Before I set my route for release, I am just thinking on a few minor things. One thing being should I keep 4 track loops between Templecombe and Evercreech? or shall i just make it 2 tracks with no loops. I am taking that into account, as if the line was ever re-opened SWT and FGW would probably use it but what would the freight implications be? has anyone got any ideas?.
Thank You, Fred.

FGW or SWT wouldn't use OLHE in a life time down that part of the country, so theres no point whats so ever.

Ah ok just that you said this route is fictional.
No worries

The thing is Fred, what would happen today to those tracks? Would networkrail rip em up or would they leave them if the demand was there, in any case it doesn't matter as the route is fictional! So OHLE wouldn't be out of the question either

Well I was thinking of FGW,SWT and NR. As Templecombe and Bath at the moment have little freight and more passenger services, I have converted the whole route 100%. It is using the track from OXF-PAD route. I was just saying before I release it would the extra capacity be needed?.

HI Fred,
Would then, the route being in the region of swt/fgw shouldn't the track have 3rd rail? That's by the by, i think in my opinion having the option to run more freight would be nice, but that is only my opinion, pity others aren't commenting
Regards
Mart

What's with the pointless "H" in OLE? Overhead is one word...
If the route existed today as part of the national network, then chances are it would be a single track "minimalist" railway, rather like the Castle Cary - Weymouth route.
Guess you need to imagine a scenario where it would have remained open as a major route - Some catastrophic tunnel collapse between Taunton and Exeter or something, and ask yourself what the likely service over that would be - what goes to Devon on the GWML? I don't think there's really that much freight down that way these days.

We don't make these accronyms up you know! It's the wordy geeks that do that

You may well be right about the scenario in the s&d but hey it's fictional and perhaps in Fred world Beeeching never existed

I wouldn't entirely rule out OHLE, simply because the GWML IS under consideration for fitting it at the moment. I guess the point Im making is, are you setting it today, or 10 years down the line (when the Government realises shutting down the S and D was a massive mistake and start throwing resources at it). If today, then clearly it isnt suitable. Though if it continued into the 1970s, I wonder if they would have gone to 3rd rail?
Whatever you decide, Im certainly looking forward to it. I dont suppose you would consider reconnecting the Green Park-Bitton- Yate line as well? I rode on the Avon Valley railway yesterday, and very nice it was too.

The OLE engineers I work with get really quite irritated when you add the pointless H
Trust me, I've made that error.
