Class 50 names and numbers.

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Class 50 names and numbers.

Post by MikeTrams »

Due to how RS is set up I can't have all 50 numbers and name plates on the same asset. So I have come up with some other ideas which I want you to vote on.

I'll go through them in more detail.

> No numbers: Just a body and load of reskins with each number on it...That would take a lot of time and much hard drive space!

> Having all numbers with no plates: Its an idea but from what I have seen they always have plates on.

> Just 10 numbers and plates: Having only 10 selected names and numbers, so say 50002, 50010, etc...

> 5 Different types of the same loco having only 10 numbers and plates: This would mean having 5 of the same type 50 with each having 1-10 numbers and plates.

Just interested in what your thoughts are. Not sure if RS2 will support nameplates. But like I said it's the way RS works at the moment...

Cheers,
Mike

just to complicate matters I personally would hope for some early Green locos with D prefix numbers, D prefix in BR blue and then later BR and NSE locos with TOPS numbers and nameplates.

Sorry :-?

They weren't green originally Mike, they were delivered in Rail Blue; but some were given 'celebrity' status and a coat of green paint late in their careers.

When the 50's were on the WCML non were named. When they moved to western region they were given warship names in 1978, having already had the tops numbers. I've voted for all numbers as the reskinners can apply names to the ones they want to.

Just 10 numbers and plates for me. As I'm thinking of the days when the 50s used to operate from Waterloo - Portsmouth (IIRC) with a rake of MKIIs... There was never the whole fleet of 50s operating on one route / area at one time, as other stock would be mixed in to cover duties / routes. I remember the 33's, 50's & 73's doing loco halued stuff down here, although the 33's used to usually do the Weymouth - Waterloo runs.

Any loco in particular? I was thinking of making the ones that are preserved so that if someone made a preserved route they can use the correct loco.

Nothing in particuar for me. As long as there are options in regards to reskins (BR Blue / NSE interest me the most as that was around my childhood / teenhood) then anything is appreciated. :)

Had a word with RSadam and got it sorted. We now have 50 working Name plates and numbers on one asset! :D Well that was useful... Posted some shots on the RS WIP thread.

Thanks for all your comments anyway! Some are useful! :D

Well according to http://www.preserved-diesels.co.uk/engines/index_50.htm in all there are 18 50's preserved and I think the preserved option would be very suitable as you said they can be used on preserved lines but also 50's at some stage were common for mainline tours so would be good twofold

Wasn't the repainting/re-naming of the "green" Class 50 a bit political? Something to do with the Falklands War, I can't remember off-hand.

Back on topic it will be great to see a Class 50 in RS - while not strictly prototypical it would make a reasonable substitute for one of the Craiova Alco's on my bralos route.

I remember 50007 was repainted Brunswick Green and lined out as per GWR steam locos, and named Sir Edward Elgar for the GWR 150th celebrations in 1985. I believe a Class 47 was also similarly repainted and I think it was named Great Western.
Both of these would look especially good on South Devon Banks.

Interesting!

The Poll is still valid! I'm thinking of only doing the preserved ones. All 18. 50 may be a bit many!
