Re: Modelling seminar
hi,
I fully support any such venture. Sadly my contribution has to be limited to buying the dvd or participation in on line events.
Non locals would appreciate the content as much as anybody so some form of wider distribution would be a major component in the venture I would suggest.

Re: Modelling seminar
Michael's suggestion about a web cast is a great idea, but would it impact on the attendance at the actual event?

Re: Modelling seminar
I've always thought this to be a good idea since RSDL put feelers out some time ago. Many potential contributers would benefit greatly, including myself, and would increase the amount of content available in the future. Everyone will be winners, including RSDL themselves. Venues wouldn't have to be excessive, with perhaps vistors contributing to the hire cost.

Re: Modelling seminar
Then there was the "Going Know Where" seminar held at a very nice pub near Ashbourne a couple of years ago, which, if I remember rightly only attracted a few punters who were outnumbered by those willing to help.
The Jon Potter "Train Simulator Convention" had the added benefit of sponsorship from Contact Sales and a meeting of Microsoft and some of the payware MSTS organisations to discuss the now defunct MSTS2.
One thing to consider is the North and South divide, and for that matter the East and West divide

Re: Modelling seminar
I really need help with getting locomotives in as well as procedural loft geometry scenic items, I get very frustrated as I often spend as long building and developing the 3d models and textures as I do getting them to work in the simulator. The DevDocs aren't very detailed and leave a lot of things as a hit and miss/trial and error affair, I'd very much appreciate a set of tutorials that address the import/export of models for KRS.

Re: Modelling seminar
I for one would welcome such an idea,as I'm struggling with Blender at the moment, trying to follow a simple dice tutorial which isn't very clear with some points,I wanted to make some walls and bridges complete with textures but it's very frustrating, maybe some of you with the know-how could point me in the right direction, should I be starting with Blender? or use something simple like Google sketchup?.

Re: Modelling seminar
Hi
3D Canvas has a growing number of enhancements and an expanding knowledge base in connection with Rail Simulator and a lot of RS specific tutorials are now available.
At about £45.00 for top Pro version, I have found this to be reasonably straightforward program to use although it cannot be described as 'easy,' and there is great deal to lean.
I guess this is the same with any 3D modelling program.

Seminar tutes could also be uploaded to a file server such as rapidshare, which altho there's a free download it's has some minor restrictions. Also, youtube has a lot of tutorials on various subjects...worth considering, as they now host HQ versions of clips..

Just saw this "advertised" on the BBC News Click program - http://www.screentoaster.com/
I may give it a go as part of my next few tutorials.

Re: Modelling seminar
Further to my suggestion for a seminar, I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a Tutorial section in the forum?
I often remember a member posting a mini tutorial in answer to someone's query, but never remember where to find it. If such items could be notified to moderator with a request to transfer it to the tutorial forum, we would ,at least, have a central location for these items. Obviously, anyone who wanted to enter a tutorial direct to the tutorial thread could do so.
I appreciate that it would require some extra effort, at times, on the part of the moderators, particularly keeping the thread clear of those pesky "Wow" type entries, but I don't think they would be so numerous as to be a problem.
Worth a try, since there seems to be no sign of the Wiki that was infered to be on its way? Or is it?
