Long shot request

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Long shot request

Post by davidhossack »

I am still working on class 47s. Sorry there has not been any releases recently but I have been doing a lot of updating of locos and a few new paints.

Anyway I was wondering...

... if anyone has made (or is willing to make) a three piece snow plow set for the class 47 that I could add to several paints that need them.

I would be very grateful for this if anyone can oblige...

(I would do it myself but while fine in Photoshop and a particularly poor 3D modeller-not to say I have no problem with card and could do you a stunning technical drawing of them  )

I could do some snowploughs, the shapes are pretty simple, but it would be best to use plans. I may have some myself, I'll have a look arround. However, aren't snowploughs attached to the bogies? It wouldn't be possible to represent them privoting round curves by adding them as "child" objects.

I don't know about retro fitting things in RS, but can you choose which part of the model is parent? If so you could have the bogie as parent and thus the ploughs should move with it?

I think it is only Hornby/Lima etc that attach the snow plows to the bogey. I think the real world connect them to the front of the buffer beam. It isn't like a real train has to deal with curves like the model ones do.

Dave B,

That would be brilliant if you could rustle up a set of 'plows for the class 47. I can help point out lots of pictures if you wish and don't worry too much about the paint.

Hi, its not the curves that they have to deal with - just those big lumps of plastic on the front of the bogies they call couplings! Your information on location is correct though - the bogies aren't screwed to the frame as such - so would probably get knocked off if they hit some real snow!
