Problem installing a Turntable

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Problem installing a Turntable

Post by stephenholmes »

Hi everyone
I wonder if you can advise me about the following
As you know I've started building a short route
I have run a length of straight track and have placed a turntable nearby
Now then I make sure I am using the same track as on my layout in this case "Bath wood Old"
I then take a short length from the turntable exit running toward the length of track I wish to connect to
For some strange reason the editor either just "hangs" or crashes to the desktop.
I do not know why this is causing a problem?
This is the first issue I have had with the editor.
I have checked my route "Candlewick" using RS Tools and there are no problems reported.
Please can someone help me resolve this
Thanks in advance
Kind regards Stephen

Hi everyone
I've managed to sort out the problem now
For whatever reason the editor was happier with me using a different exit from the turntable
Kind regards Stephen

I found that it doesn't like connecting the exit where the platform is to your track. Also the OOC turntable always seems to crash the sim, for me anyway.

Hi Gary
Thanks for your reply
You are quite correct I was trying to connect the exit that the bridge was aligned with
I decided to use the 8 exit turntable
I have much to learn about route building but the only true way is by trying and seeing what works and what doesn't?
Candlewick is 6 miles long which is more than big enough for a first attempt.
I am taking my time with it's construction and ensuring that everything looks right and works etc.
In closing I would just add that I never attempted route building for MSTS and only created 3 activities for the Crich Tramway route.
Kind regards Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I have found it is often easier to start from the turntable than to try to connect the track to the turntable.

Hi Mike
I did work away from the turntable
The screen I posted is slightly mis-leading because it appears as if I was working towards it
From what I've seen in the tutorials it is advised to work from the turntable exit not towards it etc
Thanks for your advice
Kind regards Stephen

Hi
I'm sure those starting out creating routes will find the video useful.
Candlewick is now well underway and the turntable problem was sorted out some time back now.
Thanks though for posting the video
Kind regards Stephen
