Class 25

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Nice loco I have to admit ! Only problem is that I hitched it to 6-7 MK1 cars, and approached a station at about 30 mph, which is normal for me, and this platform is about 1 1/2 times longer than the sum of loco and cars together, and realised it wasn't going to stop short of the platform end, so went into emergency (100%) braking and yet the train kept rolling slowly onwards until the first car was past the sloping end. Don't try telling me the wheels were all locked and sliding !

I'll definately buy the full model once it's out, but I just hope the brakes are working somewhat better. No complaints here, but just thought that these brakes are very akin to those of the Class 55's, as they're rather poor for stopping trains in general, unless you begin to brake a long way before you get to the station platform or point of stopping, and no good at all for quick stops at a red signal in front of you. But again, a very nice model. Thanks DT !

Of your other models are like this my wallet will suffer!
:D My copy appeared to have been uploaded properly, as it downloaded properly. :D By the above, I assume you meant the finished payware version ? My credit card has suffered a wee bit so far, but I've been happy with everything save the Class 158 m odels, which have no head-out view, but it was explained later, that there's a finished (or words to that effect) coming along at some stage, and is also free, which I hope I interpreted correctly, and we won't have to pay again, and I do hope this is correct, and that the head-out view is added, which kinda frustrates me, it being the only good (and payware) model with no head-out view at all.

Many thanks DT. Its suprising just how much of a delight it is to be able to choose a different 'Diesel' for mainline use.

The 25 is one of Rob's, along with all of the clay renders on the front page. He's a busy beaver.

Then "Thank you, Rob". Very nice.

Actually, I'm more into steam but I'll have to have this one when it comes out in green.

Thank goodness we have another diesel at last!

I'm more into diesel than steam, but I'm really 'chuffed' with this one.

Will certainly purchase just as soon as it's available.

Yes I did mean payware, late at night for me so couldn't think of the words.

You're right, the site does need an overhaul, something we'll get around to shortly, hopefully. As Gof says, Rob's the chap responsible for all those lovely models on the home page, each one a work of art. I've been lucky enough to mess with his models before, during preliminary testing, and they're all worth the wait, I can tell you that much. Glad everyone likes the rat so far, I find it goes perfectly on the excellent Further North route.

Whats classic traction without a little bit of thrash! 8)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_keWzyvSVE

What ive managed to whip up since DT released the 25, they are not professional sounds by any means but im quite happy how they have come out. Ive never heard or seen a 25 ( A 33 on the Mid-Hants was the closest i got) but they sound reasonably close going by the youtube videos i have watched. The startup needs work as it wont play before the idle sound comes one, and i wouldve liked to have some transition sounds but i couldnt find any good samples, the ones i had were too long for them to work properly. I gave up trying to loop the horn as i figured out it would only result in slightly less hair on my head. The horn is also pretty much inaudible over the roar of the engine above idle, ill need to try and fix that too.
I have also made a scenario for my Cotswold Valley Line route (shown in this video) that will give you a good place to test them. To DL the route scroll down in the General RS section and you will see the thread.
Hope you guys like them, they should be ready soon (TM)

Nikos, that sounds excellent, nicely done!

Edit: Would you like me to attempt to add a loop to the horn?
