Rail sim freezing

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Rail sim freezing

Post by NickG »

Just tried running a couple of scenarios on the Newcastle - York Route, and they cause the PC to freeze completly, making it necessary to reboot with the on/off button before I can do anything else
Anyone any suggestions?

Hi Nick
Have you checked whether your computer meets the minimum specification to run Rail Simulator?
If you visit http://www.railsimulator.com there is a tool there that will check your computer to establish if it is suitable.
Kind regards Stephen

Is it persistantly crashing?
A computer that's more than adequate to run TS

Don't take my word as gospel here, but this doesn't sound like a RailSim crash to me but rather an OS/driver crash. Would you happen to be using an Nvidia graphics card with one of their recent drivers? (18X.22 would entirely crash/turn off my PC in three different OSes including and especially when trying to play RailSim.) If not then it could be a number of other things.

Either way, if you could post specifics about your system we might be able to narrow the problem somewhat more.

I got crashes and freezes when I upgraded to the latest nVidia graphics drivers. Updating to the latest nForce motherboard drivers solved the problems.
You could consider using a program such as driver detective to identify which drivers you have that are out of date.
The value of your investments may go up as well as down.

Hi there,

would you be so kind as to list the exact steps you took to fix the issue? (This way anyone else who has the issue can repeat them and maybe get it resolved.)
