Newbie question

I've just bought a copy of this game whilst I wait for my replacement MSTS CDs to turn up, and reading the FAQ it says something about the EULA being installed 3 times before you have to repurchase the software. Given my computer will be having windows installed on a new drive soon, this chews up 2 of them.

Given that with PCs a windows reinstall is inevitable every 18 months or so, does this mean I will have to pay another $40AUD periodically just to be able to continue to use it?

I'm sure if you kindly tell your providers the situation your in they'll provide you with some more licenses or keys. For example, I exceeded my installation attempts with Call of Duty 4, and after emailing them they kindly unlocked it for me without charge.

Good luck.

I put that to RS in their forum explaining that I had to replace 2 motherboards last year thereby using 2 installations and
again 3 weeks ago when the motherboard and PSU bit the dust. That is 3 installations.
There is no software company who has this restriction that I know of, even MSoft tests users have new activations after the 5 are used.
The reply was that RS will look at your request and possibly allow further installations, that was not the way it was posted, I just dont recall the exact wording but I'm pretty close to it.

I've installed RS countless times with no such problems.

Hi,
I think you may be getting confused, there is no limit on how many times you can install/uninstall Rail Simulator.

The downloadable Addons from RailSimulator.com however do have a restriction (please read the FAQ for more details http://www.railsimulator.com/shop/support )
However if users are having problems then they should contact the shop: Shop@railsimulator.com
All mails get read my me and get dealt with swiftly.

regards

Derek

Derek - that's very reassuring to know.

My RS add-ons are now on their third PC in less than a year due to various hardware problems and a toasting motherboard, so I expect they won't work on any future PC. I want to trust DRM enough to know that, as a legitmate buyer, I can re-activate my software after the first three installs are all used up. Having lost two-thirds of my music because the DRM has tired of my several re-installs of Windows (and no way of contacting the MSN vendor), it has done nothing but penalise me and I refuse to buy any more DRM-protected music. Therefore, I did feel like I was taking a huge risk in buying DRM-protected RS add-ons.

If requests to re-activate are indeed considered and granted on a case-by-case basis, that would certainly restore my confidence.

Thanks for that Derek. That improves my confidence with this sim quite a little bit. Still a truckload of stuff to learn!
