Hi Simuk,
Yes what you have said is true, the prices were fair based on the true value of currency. However though from my personal experience as a yank living in the UK, for one summer atleast, is that Brits use their pounds just as we use our dollars, they dont think of 5 pounds being a large sum of money than an american would think of 5 dollars. It would be affordable to me pay 20 dollars as it would be for someone living in the UK to spend 20 pounds, however someone in Britain having to spend 40 pounds on an addon would feel the same pain as an American spending 40 dollars.
But im glad to see the price has gone down to 34 dollars, though i dont think this is a result of the dollar gaining but more of a result of the rest of the world's currency falling, which is pretty much out fault for causing this economic crisis. But atleast now with the current economic situation changing the way it is i may be able to afford Isle of Wight finally.

Re: Price differentiation for non-UK citizens
A similar thread has been running about the MSTS add-on Cambrian 2. The base pack is $48.95 (£32.75) which seems very expensive compared to what the MT Great Eastern went for when it was released. I think I paid about £20 for Great Eastern and Cambrian 2 base pack is £32 by my conversions. Add to that the add-on pack for another $32.95 (£22.20) and you are looking at a very expensive product.
Maybe the American market can stand this but for me it is the cost of another N Gauge DMU set.
In the UK the add-ons from EB and Making Tracks turn around at around £20 or less on launch and maybe a little less on later purchases. Presumably that is why Cambrian 2 is an exclusive from the makers to maximise their return and why ultimately I won't buy it despite liking the look of it since no add-on is worth more than £20 in my eyes. The currency conversions make comparing like with like difficult but Cambrian 2 seems expensive to me.
Now having bought stuff from the EU the exchange rates seem great - Activity Analyser being a good example
