Hi,
1st post here...
Has anyone ever found a specific answer to the 8800 gts 512 blue-screening/graphics corruption issues that I read so much about on forums regarding Rail Simulator?
I have never found a definitive answer & have therefore tried everything:-
I've installed/uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times. I've tried native/with MK1/with MK2. I've tried 6 different graphics driver revisions. I've tried enabling/disabling/defaulting EVERY setting that the game allows to tweak - along with the settings that nVidia have on their driver software & this is the only one that SEEMS to make a difference - giving the nVidia control panel specific settings for this program does seem to enable it to run for longer before crashing, but that's the best I get. Does anyone know the definitive settings I should try, it's going on ebay if not?
Any help much appreciated...
TIA

Re: Specific answer to 8800 gts problem?
HI Richy, Welcome to the forums
.
I have the exact same card of yours, an xfx brand, and have never had such problems you have mentioned
. If you say you've tried everything driver wise and in game options wise, then it could be defective hardware. Could you please list a full specification of the hardware you've coupled the 8800 gts with? I.e Mottherboard, RAM, power supply etc. Also, is Rail Simulator the only game you are having problems with with this card? If not it could again point to defective hardware
.
Graham.

Re: Specific answer to 8800 gts problem?
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I only have probs of any kind with Rail Simulator (bought it last week) & I posted here as over @ the Official Rail Simulator forum I was told that this was a graphics card with known probs on this Sim! And that it was probably driver/settings related - I was even given the name of 'CaptainScarlet', who apparently is a bit of a graphic's settings guru on this forum...
The PC is an:-
ASUS P5K Premium Wi-Fi mobo
Intel Q6600 quad-core CPU
4GB Geil 800MHz RAM
MSI NX8800GTS 512M OC (GeForce 8800GTS card)
FSP Blue Storm II PSU - Rated @ 500W
(Self-built, but all running @ stock-speeds, no overclocking...)
If it helps, this setup works fine with M$ FSX.
Any help to move this forward would be very much appreciated, as someone bought me the 'Official Expansion Pack' and it's rather frustrating that I can't even get the 'base' package to work (BTW - I ran the demo fine, just to make sure, before I ordered the Sim off Amazon...)
TIA

Re: Specific answer to 8800 gts problem?
I have been running an Intel q6600 with an Nvidia 8800gtx 768meg video card for the past 9 months and have never had any video problems with it in Rail simulator or any other program. Nor have I seen any postings regarding problems with the 8800gts with Rail Simulator. Most of the complaints I have seen were about the ATI cards.
My son runs an 8800gts and has never had Rail simulator problems with it, we always upgrade to the latest Nvidia drivers whenever they are released.

No problems here with an 8800 gtx. Haven't seen a blue screen in years.
Re: Specific answer to 8800 gts problem?
Solved problem!
Bought a Radeon 4870 instead - works like a charm now.
Don't understand why the 8800 GTS 512 didn't work though, oh well...

Cus I had a few spare bits lying around (after my gfx card upgrade) I quickly put a second machine together, just to make sure the probs were not caused by windows or a bad install of the RS software - low and behold the 8800 GTS 512 did exactly the same - UNTIL I realised the MSI software that came with the card (outside the 'normal' nVidia stuff) had installed an 'overclock' feature & it was on (the card was a pre-O/C card anyway). Turned the feature off with no ill effects to play and/or frame-rate and NO GRAPHICS CORRUPTION, so I'm guessing GFX memory over-heat was the culprit - just incase anyone else suffers from this prob - check your temperatures! I'm amazed that the same thing never happened with FSX though
