R S Tools will not open

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

R S Tools will not open

Post by iainstronach »

Hi

I have installed RS Tools as per the read me instructions, but when i try to open the program I get the following message-

"Run Time Error 339"
Component "TABCTL.OCX " or one of its dependancies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

This file is not in my Windows System32 file or any other file on my computer
Has anybody else had this problem?
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Iain,

The file is in the package along with 4 other .ocx files. If they did not install correctly, then I assume you are using Vista. If so, right click on the RS_Tools_Pro_Setup.exe file and make sure the permissions are changed to Run as Administrator, then it should install OK.

Hi everyone
I am wondering if this is a problem with Vista?
The reason I say this is because I have had the same problem and sadly I gave up trying to install Mikes Tools.
I know they are highly acclaimed and I would love to be able to install them but due to difficulties mentioned I gave up.
I have all permissions set on my pc and even tried the command prompts but all to no avail.
In my opinion and it only my opinion vista is a pain in the neck that's for sure.
Kind regards Stephen.
Ps By the time I fully understand Vista it will be obsolete.

By the time XP was stable it was replaced by Vista, just to start torturing pple again! :(

Nevertheless, I must say I'm using Vista 64 ans RS Tools work fine,

Good luck,

Hi Manuel
I am using Windows Vista 32 Bit Business Edition
And unfortunately I have encountered the error message reported ref Mikes Tools.
I also tried using command prompts to no avail.
Staying with the subject of Vista, Microsoft havn't helped matters by announcing Vistas replacment currently in development.
Vista reminds me of Windows ME which was just a test bench for Windows 2000.
In my opinion there was nothing wrong with Windows XP it was purely change for change sake.
Perhaps someone can shed light on why Mikes tools cannot be easily installed on machines running Vista.
I do think this needs narrowing down because I would love to be able to use Mikes Tools.
Kind regards Stephen.

I honestly do not know if this is going to work, I sincerely hope so, try uninstalling everything related to RS Tools, including folders and (if you dare) registry entries, and reinstall again.

I must say the first thing I got rid of after having used Vista (64 bit version) for 2 days was UAC. It's a pain and useless, what I got was a good anti malware prog.

Good luck,

Hi again Manuel
I have already uninstalled Mikes Rs Tools I also went into the Registry and deleted reference to the tools.
I re-installed but again the same problem.
I tried running a command prompt, now this I admit is more difficult than it should be.
Because in command prompt I am greeted with C:/Users/Stephen>
I was advised to type into command prompt regsvr32.exescrrun.dll
I was also advised to type C:/regsvr32.exetabctl32.ocx
I just get the message saying is not recognised as an internal or external command operable program or batch file.
Just to be clear when typed the command looks like this C:/Users/Stephen>C:/regsvr32.exetabctl32.ocx
I am unable to remove C:/Users/Stephen> in the prompt
it has been suggested that > shouldn't be in the string.
I have forgotten DOS commands etc it's been along time since I used them seems like the dark ages now.
Kind regards Stephen

If this is Vista then you need to start the command prompt as "Run as Administrator" by right clicking and selecting it ( I assume you know what I mean ). Then the command to enter is ( and you can cut and paste this ) eg regsvr32 tabctl32.ocx
You should then get the message that it has succeeded.

Hi John
I double checked that I had all permissions and I have.
Then I pasted the command into the prompt
This resulted in "The module tabctl32.ocx"was loaded but the call to Dll register server failed error code 0x8002801c
I'm not sure what is going on here?
Thanks for your help kind regards Stephen.
If I try to run Mikes Tools then the message tabctl32.ocx is missing or was not registered appears?

When you say that you checked that you had all the permissions, did you right click on the command prompt shortcut and select "run as administrator" ?

In theory you should do the same as before, start the cmd prompt by right clicking and selecting run as admin and type
regsvr32 richtx32.ocx
