Cursed copy of RS?

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Update:

Here is another short vid, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=K2IrpkKsCTI This vid shows the drivers still on the roofs this anomaly has spread to all scenarios and all HST's with the sound pack installed, there is also a problem with the passengers in the TRFB coach, the previous texture problem has transferred to the passengers, you will also notice that in editor mode the sound decals are showing and i think this may be a clue as to why the drivers may be on the roof? the last scene shows a copy of RS without the scenario's or the mtu soundpack installed and no sign of sound marker decals on the hst. also in the driver folder for the hst in the asset folder, it is empty? I hope this can be fixed? If not i will have to delete the scenarios and hope that cures the problem? :(

Thanks Richard, maybe Derek or Adam could have some input too?

I had to re-install mine because after downloading from digital traction.net the last train from london paddington to oxford, RS wouldn't respond, it took forever to load.

That video looks like RS runs like water out of a tap for you, i'm looking forward to experiencing that with a better machine!

Hiya Jungrail, yes well i spent a wedge of cash on the puter, built it myself, much cheaper, just waiting to save up for another water block for my other 8800 GTX so i can run it in SLI mode, mind you saying that i briefly tried it in SLI but didn't see any improvement?? Probably my overclocked Quad core Phenom not up to scratch?

Cheers

Sorry for the 3 month reply! Been really overly busy. I would of guessed you built it yourself. Maybe you're right on the sound pack it probably did something with the script for the drivers to sit in the cab?! But again really smooth quality on the movement of the game, i want to experience that myself, we built my friends computer and i must say it is a whizz, not as powerful as yours but still a machine i would like to own.

I dunno about you but just saying about the soundpack, maybe an overclocked CPU is another problem, we thought about this when getting my friends one. But im just taking a wild guess, too much data being transfered too fast and getting certain scripts muddled

Mart (or anyone...),

how exactly was the issue resolved?

What was the fix for "some corrupted files"?

What were they?

I ask only because I've now got the same problem and am struggling to resolve it :s

Thanks, Rik.

I'd like to know what the fix was as well. I too have drivers perched precariously on the roofs of passing HST power cars while using a Just Trains' Armstrong scenario pack (bought a few days ago). It was hilarious at first, but I have a suspicion that as time passes that may diminsh!

I've been really enjoying the scenarios though (Paddington-Oxford); thanks for putting in the time that I never seem to have. I particularly enjoyed the Boris Johnston special.

I must get that ridiculous default HST horn replaced. No doubt there's a realistic one available somewhere. The 47's is much better.

Well, my 14 year-old son thought it highly amusing, so I suppose there's that... :o

I too have scenario packs, however, mine came direct from Richard's own site, http://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com so I've no idea whether those released in partnership with Just Trains are the same content or different? Richard?

For what it's worth, my roof-riders are now fixed, however, it's not due to any genius on my behalf. With Richard's assistance, an errant .bin file was replaced and things are now back to normal. The fault seems to have been of my making and even though I always back-up my content and assets prior to installing new stuff, I'd not spotted the problem until after a couple of iterations. Consequently, my backup was out of date. :( Lesson learned.

The root cause of the problem appears to be (in my case) installation of FGW stock from a "stock pack" that had been enabled for use with Richard's alternate sound files (MTU sound pack, I believe) despite my not having purchased said sound files (don't know what I was thinking...).

I'd have to concur; really enjoyable scenarios. Richard has a real talent for this both in his understanding of the prototype and of this sim.

Whilst I have not (yet) had first-hand experience of it, Richard's HST sound packs proclaim to include a replacement horn sound...

Cheers, Rik.

It was a new installation with only upgrades 1 and 2 installed before the activity package.

When I say 'new', it was my fourth recent re-load, though I did delete all the legacy folders etc. Trying to install South Devon Banks just seems to permanently crash my RS.

Is backing up just making a copy of the whole thing, root RS downwards, in another folder, ready to copy back if disaster strikes?

Cheers, aye

Hi Larch
With regards to backing up, I prefer to copy my entire Rail Simulator folder and keep it safe on an external Hard Drive
Simply navigate to your Rail Simulator folder right click and choose copy, now go to the chosen location where you wish to store the copy and right click and select paste, a copy of Rail Simulator will now be placed for safe keeping.
Note:Copying Rail Simulator can take twenty minutes or more depending on size of folder mine is currently 8.4 GB
Kind regards Stephen

I feel your pain, brother :D

I do the same; want to be 100% certain there's no "cruft" left lurking...

Not tried this route yet...

That's precisely what I do, yes.

Heh, mine's a svelte 7GB and takes but a handful of minutes to copy; gotta love RAID0 arrays and 10k rpm drives :D

Hi Rik
My External Hard Drive is a solid state passport sized Hd, it may be slow but it's reliable.
The main point is back up Rail Simulator and do so regularly.
This will save alot of frustration should the gremlins strike.
Kind regards Stephen
