Coal drops at Didcot

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Coal drops at Didcot

Post by Neptune50006 »

Do the coal drops at Didcot work or are they just a static scenery object?

Yes they do BUT you have to position each individual wagon just right to unload. So basically it's a waste of time. now if you could just drive over at say 5mph, that would be good.

So far I have tried the HAA's and 16T mineral wagons. I'll go back and try again, but as you say, being able to do it non stop would be better.

Update: Try as I might, I couldn't find the correct position for the wagon so that it would unload. What a waste of a good feature :(

Hi Neptune50006,

Have a look at Digital Tractions 'Cold Snap' Scenario, where you drive a coal train from Oxford-Didcot return, with unloading at Didcot power station.

Available here.

http://digitaltraction.net/joomla/index ... mitstart=5

You do have to stop each HAA in turn to unload as discussed, but it is a good Scenario in my opinion.

Just one thing, the writer has missed loading one of the HAA with coal (or it was when I downloaded it quite some time ago), you might want to use 'Edit' to load that wagon before running the Scenario.

However that's how in real life it works. ;)

I have found no problems with the coal drops and think it's a great feature!

Thank you for that. It's made me realise my mistake. I wasn't pressing shift with the T button. So it's not a wasted feature after all :)

Cheers.

So, with shift + T do you have to stop each wagon on the drop or can you keep rolling slowly?

I don't think it is. The train moves slowly through the unloader at a constant speed as set by the driver using the loco's slow speed control system and the bottom doors on the wagons are opened and closed automatically to discharge the contents.

When it comes to RS you need to stop on the unloaders and then press shift +t to successfully unload them. If you then start moving when unloading the coal the coal flow will stop.
