Screen Resolution

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Screen Resolution

Post by ka959 »

What is considered to be the most appropriate screen resolution setting for KRS (Mk2 upgrade) when you have a 22" flatscreen monitor ? I see that having KRS set to the same resolution as my monitor produces a rather "squashed" appearance to the trains when viewed front-on. Different persons may have different ideas as to what's best, but I'd be pleased to know what others think about this. I have the monitor set to 1440 x 900, and that's a good one for the screen size, but KRS says differently it appears !

Edit: I always run KRS in FullScreen mode, and always have. I set it to several 1600 modes and settled for one of them, which now makes the trains look much more "proportioned" when viewed from the front, so I'm happy I'd say. Thanks for the prompt to try other screen resolutions, which I'd only experimented with 1280 x 1024. Cheers, and thanks again.

Regards...

Is this windowed or full screen ? I have a 20" widescreen monitor and usually now run in a window at 1400x900. If I run full screen I use 1680X1050. Before MK2 when I ran in a window I preferred to use a 4:3 ratio resolution as everything was stretched otherwise. If you are running at a lower screen resolution than the native resolution of the monitor then the monitor's and or the graphics card "monitor scaling" settings may be affecting how it looks perhaps. For me with MK2 running in widescreen RS no longer looks stretched and much better than before.

I also have a 22in 2ms monitor. I have my desktop set to 1680 x 1050 and I also have RS on this setting too in full screen - works well for me

Hi

There's not just a single answer your original question. It depends on the aspect ratio of the monitor (4:3, 16:9 or 16:10 for instance) as well as how many pixels it can display in each direction (probably the more important factor).
