Crash to desktop whenever scenario saved

I am posting this here because the official forums are down.

Yesterday, I was working on a scenario on the Paddington-Oxford route. I had noticed that, after changing the pick up passenger instructions of one train, a number of the others had failed, and I wanted to find out why, so I used the preview feature, increased 16x, and realised that the problem was that I had not finished the schedule of the train on which I was working, with the result that, when it reached Slough, it never moved again, blocking the up main.

Knowing that the preview mode causes problems, I exited the programme without saving, using upper right "X" (I run Rail Simulator in windowed mode), having saved shortly before performing the preview using the F2 button.

When I loaded the scenario next, and every subsequent time, each and every attempt to save, whether by pressing F2 or the play button has resulted in a crash to desktop with no error message. I have therefore lost an enormous amount of work.

Update: I tried to revert to an older version that I had backed up before I had added one of the diagrams. It was able to save correctly, but, although all the AI trains reported as "succeeded" in the drivers tab, two trains failed to move when the scenario started. I jumped to one of them as a player driver, and started to move it myself: when I then jumped to another train, it continued moving correctly.

I then jumped to the second train that was not moving, and did the same thing. When I tried to jump to a third train, however, the programme crashed to desktop again, and again with no error message.

James, you haven't lost the work, go into the scenarios folder and delete the temporarysave.xml file and you should be able to continue on. But what that does tell you is that there is a service causing the problem ( usually the last one added ). Every time you use the fast forward a temporarysave.xml file is created and if there is a problem this can stop the scenario loading.

Hi James,

Funny you should mention this, I installed the Mk2 upgrade with no problems when it was released and yesterday ran a Hayling Island Scenario I had written and run several times before the upgrade. Nearing the end of the Scenario I received an 'AI collision' pop up and the Scenario ended at that point. I knew this had never happened before when I had run this Scenario, so I also used the Preview feature and found that one of the AI trains did not move and was then hit by a following AI train.

Use of the 'Drivers list' tab reported that all the AI to be OK when checked (several times), so I deleted the offending AI Loco from its Consist (leaving all other items of the Consist) and then re-installed the same Loco and gave it the required 'Driver' and 'Stop' tabs (filled in exactly as the deleted ones). Saved the changes and hey presto everything ran correctly, just as before MK2 was installed.

I haven't had time to run all my other Scenarios yet to see if others have been affected or if it was just a one off. Just thought I'd post this so you knew you were not alone with this anomaly.

Hi James,

Sorry to hear about your problems with the official site. However I do not believe it is the site at fault. I and many others have been exchanging replies on the official forums for most of the day without any problems.

Aaaah i thought i was the only one who has experienced this problem of an Ai collision when pre Mk2 everything was fine! So far though i haven't identified which consist is causing the problem as the driver list says everything is ok, but yes whatever is happening is causing some of the Ai not to run as per instructions, a new bug yes? And Adam your e-mail support is off line and has been for some time, so specific problems wont necessarily be sorted in the forums?

I have just being making a scenario for the Hagen Siegen route, i was just placing a freight wagon and it just crashed to desktop with a gathering info pop up which also states that the launcher application has suddenly stopped working?? First time i have experienced this, never happened pre Mk2! Pain in the Bum for want of a more colourful expression.

Update: Noticed the new weather patterns have gone too?
