Fix for missing track is out

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

When you open the association list, Follow the steps you have been doing to find the new PM and then look under the recommended programs list at the top, do you have an icon which just looks like a window with no text next to it. If so, that is actually the PM (new version).

EDIT: At least on my comp it is anyway, hopefully you may have the same.

I have managed to deassociated the .rpk file from Opera after a restart but if I browse to choose a program to open the file with and select the new PM it does not show in the list of programs even after I have selected it. What should have taken a few minutes has now been going on for over an hour now. Not happy !!!!!

Hi Michael
No spaces no gaps no text the new PM just does not show anywhere on the lists of programs to select.

I seem to remember that somwhere in XP there is a file association listing, perhaps you can fix it there if you find it. ( it might be via the explorer window )

Have tried that John. It is in the Control Panel. I have even deleted the RPK file and started from scratch with the new button. It will not acknowledge that the PM is a program for some reason and in the advanced options of all listed programs it does not seem to exist. Could this be a registry problem?

Possibly, though I am not really sure. Maybe you could try restoring back to the last restore point if you have them and you feel like taking risks  , unless someone has a better idea.

Michael dropping the file on the PM Icon does work and installs the package but I cannot link the file with the program like I did on the original PM so I can just double click on the RPK file.

No risks tonight John. This has got me puzzled as I had the old PM linked up with the RPK file so I could just Double Click to install a new package
Thanks for your help and everyone else also. Much appreciated. I do seem to get in some scrapes with this machine!.

I reinstalled the track fix, which partly worked: I had to weld the tracks at the Northern end of Ealing Broadway to get them to work, but it is correct now (after I have welded).

James, I just wanted to check that after you have tried associating the file extension, have you been testing if it had worked by double clicking on a .rpk file ?

I suppose what you could try is to uninstall the old package manager ( back up the other .rpks etc in the folder before though ), the uninstall util is in the folder, and see if that allows you to associate the new one.

Its strange I wasn't able to double click a .rpk before MK2 as the package manager didn't like Vista 64bit, but after installing MK2 I could. The only problem that came up was that the links I had used to start it manually were pointing to the old version. That's how I realised that there were two versions in different folders after wanting to see where the version no was displayed ( I realize I should have posted about it when the patch came out  ).

Tried that John. It will only accept association to the original PM. That shows up in the program listing as a basic Icon with a space. If I do the same with the new PM it does not show and therefore can't be associated if I try to double click it just launches the Spybot scanner because the new version automatically checks unassociated files.
Have installed the fixes by launching the PM first and locating the RPK file. Not as simple as just double clicking but it works OK.
Thanks and Regards James.
