Because that was my first post in I don't know how long. I gave up on the sim for about 8 months and just decided to check in to see if things have improved ... and they haven't. The track problems have not been remedied and the session/scenario editor is nigh on pointless. This sim was promoted to community developers but 12 months after release, the community is hardly better off. The only benefit this sim has over its rivals is that it's easier to import DEM and HGT data.Easilyconfused wrote:If you think it is dead when why bother to post in a Rail Simulator forum ?pgmetcalf wrote:Doesn't really matter what people want to be honest, the sim is dead.

It's ok, you happy clappers just carry on and let's see how long the community for this sim lasts. I'm through with it to be honest, but I will call back ocassionally just on in the forlorn hope of progress although, hand on heart, I know it's not going to happen.ashgray wrote: EasilyConfused has already asked people to keep this thread on topic and to avoid it becoming yet another opportunity to slag off RailSim - what part of his post did you not understand? Please do not hijack what was otherwise a positive, constructive thread simply to promote your negativity.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
Hopefully this will steer the topic back on track. I would like to see the following four enhancements to the RS program.
1. I have asked for the following prior to the release of the MK1 and MK2 updates but as yet this (hopefully minor) issue has not been addressed.
When track is laid using 'Loft Rule Percent' to 3 decimal places can only be read back in the world editor to 1 decimal place. This may be a trivial matter for express passenger trains on undulating terrain but of major importance for 36,000+ tonne ore trains where slight changes in gradient affect train dynamics. If I am to spend months of work on building an accurately profiled route I would like to read back the gradient on any part of the route to the same precision as I laid it.
2. Currently the FPS display does not drop below 14 FPS when the frame rates are obviously lower than that. As a content creator I need to know what the results are of any changes I make to models and scenery in order to see if they improve or degrade FPS performance.
3. The train physics also need a jolly good thrashing. RS train physics do not scale well on long trains. The trains I would like to simulate contain 212 wagons in one train. Assemble such a train in RS and the program struggles (<14FPS) just sitting in the cab of a stationary train looking out the front windscreen (so it’s not a polygon draw issue). This is on my 3GHz Core Duo 8800GTX machine is no slouch either.
4. If possible I would also like the 2000 metre draw limit for 3D objects to be increased in the graphics engine. If the limit can not be increased then at least allow distant objects to loom out of a mist like MSTS uses. I have bulk ore carriers that stand 55 metres high and are 280 metres long. Having these ships and other large mining equipment like ore stackers and reclaimers just ‘pop-up’ is inelegant. Even offsetting pivot points on these large objects causes illogical results.
Thanks.

Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
hi, something i've noticed that i would like updating is the distance that the class 166 changes from LOD mesh to full mesh, it only seems to change to detailed mesh when i am very close say 100m and very noticable, it may happen with other trains and objects but this is the one i have noticed,
cheers

Hi
I was wondering if it would be possible to have a camera view that automatically advances you to the next station ahead. At the moment if you want to view your train flying though a station you have to fly to the next station and quickly try to get our view point before the train arrives.

You can use the pause break button then move to the next stationTheTazman wrote:Hi

What graphics settings are you running at? If quite low then this will account for such short distance before full mesh is seen.GavNormandale wrote:hi, something i've noticed that i would like updating is the distance that the class 166 changes from LOD mesh to full mesh, it only seems to change to detailed mesh when i am very close say 100m and very noticable, it may happen with other trains and objects but this is the one i have noticed

Happens to me too on full settings resulting in the headlights only just appearing. This severe level of LODing seems a bit excessive.Blackpatch wrote:What graphics settings are you running at? hi, all settings on or high in graphical options, as i say ive only noticed with on the 166, low detail model does appear ok but think it should be changing earlierBlackpatch wrote:What graphics settings are you running at? Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
There seems to be a prob with the LOD full stop... On full settings and tweaked high set drivers I still have windows lighting up on carriages on passing trains at only 100ms away (very noticeable on evening runs).. On another issue not connected with the LOD but with the way the draw is working the way bushes popping up alongside the line as I'm only 1 sec away from them is very weird as well yet trees seem fine!! Talking of evening runs; whats up with having a working headlight, I can't see the speed limits, though its handy I suppose that some of the vegetation seems to be radioactive and glows in the dark

On the subject of the 166, can we have a ping for the AWS instead of the bell. Have tried to fix this problem with suggestions from the community before but to no avail.
Re: Mk3 upgrade wishes
There is a small issue with the speedo in one of the HST cab.

Could that not already be possible? Like, use "space" for one tone and say "B" for the other?TheTazman wrote:I would still like to see multi toned horns.
