Mk3 upgrade wishes

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Pantograph sparkles could be done by transparent alpha assigned to plane which is animated to come out from somewhere in random intervals. Give me some time to prove it

Only thing that I cannot see in RS is the pantograph motion following the catenary lines as shown in video.
I would be impressed if you could, but you wont get superelevation nor train wobble and bounce, nor the interior darkening out when in tunnels etc, nor advanced train protection systems as you can in bve, how about rain on windows that can be cleard by the wipers? And besides i reckon you would need a super computer to get all those effects in RS, but the effects in the vid were accomplished by a mid range computer! Open source is a wonderful thing yes?

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but i'd like to see the Asset Editor modified so it shows animations correctly as to how they would appear in the sim.

FoR example i preview a model in the Asset Editor - check the animation - all appears fine - I export the model, go into the game and the animation is totally diffrent. I would therefore like the Asset Editor to produce a better representation of the finished models animation as it would appear in game.

Also could some tutorials/source files be found/released/made for the correct procedure on how to set up links and animations in 3dsMax so as to get them working properly, there seems to be no definative guide and im struggling. Some examples of simple linking rods between axles wouldn't go a miss.

Cheers Chris :D

Just to clarify any misconceptions XNA is not a game engine,it's a framework that allows game developers to implement simple prebuilt features like landscapes, meshes, actors, particles, UI.

Agreed thats got to be the number 1 fix. If we can get it so the Despatcher does not go off on tea and biscuit breaks whilst we are driving then we would be all happy chappys.

Agreed.

Since I don't really visit this section these days,is there any confirmation about what is getting looked at/tweaked/fixed-a list of some kind? or any clarification there will be a Mk3?

The dispatcher certainly does have an odd method of working sometimes. Some days its great, and its figured out exactly what I want to do before I start setting up stopping points etc, other days its just in another world. This morning for example, Id set up a small scenario on W&B with some light AI traffic. So one moment I'm rattling along, Single yellow, the next Approach controlled red comes off, and routes me into a goods loop on the opposite side and then routes and AI DMU head-on into the loop from other direction....Frustrating,yes, but I just had to laugh at the outrageousness of it. The Siggy was definitely gonna be taken off and Drug screened for that!

Daz,

I've not seen any confirmation of what is being addressed by Upgrade Mk3, nor any commitment to producing an Upgrade Mk3. I imagine that by the end of March, when the 8 weeks in the RSDL statement of 28 Jan will be up, we'll know one way or the other.

Daz,

The statement is at the bottom of the "Latest News" area of the RailSim home page: http://www.railsimulator.com/home, click on "Read more" to see the part I referred to.

Well I really hope they release something very soon and I hope it is big. They have released two patches to fix bugs which made more bugs (Ealing Broadway). I really hope Mk3 upgrades Rail sim because at this moment I would pick bve or MSTS over it anyday. I think the graphics are superb in this game and thats the only good thing about it. If it wasnt for the add ons from Armstrong powerhouse and other 3rd party developers I would have got bored with this game along time ago theres only so much activities you can write for Oxford to London.

In the year and a half since the game has come out I really thought there would be much more add ons than there are from RS. I mean who would pick the isle of wight as their first choice as a route?

You look at the RS website announcements and its packed with other 3rd party developers products not theirs. But yet they have time to talk about biscuits in their blog and uploading silly videos of workers in telephone boxes.

I really hope they can pull their finger out because I would love to be proved wrong.

I think RSDL have been working hard and still are, times are tough and they are very aware of the current state of the economy, look at Aces studio! I think the IOW was a tester to see what is possible, as for assets well look back at msts1 in it's first year, plus you didn't get the interaction from Microsoft for their product! Keep on going fella's you have my support ( even though i have a gripe now and then  ) As for the barmy shenanigans with biscuits and vids, well all work and no play makes jack a very dull boy

Dean,

We take biscuits very seriously... especially when we run out.

Official statements will come on the Latest news section. The blog is a nice distraction for the team and not meant to give any news on what RSDL are up to.

The IOW was chosen because it was compact, It was the first route produced without the large numbers of Kuju staff.
It allowed us to try new ways of working that will improve the standard and speed of which we build future work. We are all very proud of the route and the standard achieved.

regards

Derek

We consider the official release the point when the specs are finalised. Therefore the latter can only come with the former.

Honestly though, its been said dozens of times. If we post a list up we will only be inundated with complaints that it doesnt mention XYZ. If there is no list to pick to shreds, people only complain about the lack of anything to complain about! :D
