Mk3 upgrade wishes

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

It's interesting to see what people have as their priorities, shows how diverse our interests can be even in such a close hobby.
My top 3 are: proportional smoke/steam effects, proportional smoke/steam effects and proportional smoke/steam effects :)

Honestly, once we have that I consider anything else a bonus. It's the only bit of RS I still look at and pine for MSTS over.

:D

I think we all have a list of "must have"'s that must absolutely be present to make the sim 'right' along with the second list of "these are not totally required but would be veeery nice" items. If nothing else, I'm hoping the must-haves are considered first, being people's top priorities. There also seems to be nearly a near unanimous agreement on overhauling the dispatcher, so I'm hoping that's considered one of the top priorities in general.

EDIT: I ended up with a case of food poisoning yesterday and am still in 'recovery' mode so don't mind my confused grammar :D

Cheers,

How about connecting Didcot Railway Centre to the mainline so that all those wonderful GWR loco's can carry out their railtour duties :D

If RSDL are still compiling a list for Mk3 then it's obviously some way off! Or are you looking for ideas for a new version of RailSim rather than an upgrade?

Keith,

I am neither being impatient nor trying to spread doom and gloom. Just wondering what RSDerek was collecting suggestions for, the Mk3 upgrade which is the subject of this thread or the new products and business concepts referred to in this part of RSDL's statement of 28 Jan.
Some of you will know that at RSDL we have been working hard on new products and business concepts that we believe will significantly enhance the Virtual Rail experience. In pursuing our goals, we want to encourage new recruits to the railway simulator community and we believe that we can achieve this by creating compelling content and also by providing the tools for others to do likewise - for both pleasure and profit.
If it's the latter then I could come up with more far reaching ideas than if it were just the Mk3 Upgrade.

Hi,
We are always looking for ways to improve rail Simulator and we are interested in what people would like to see.
Time frame has nothing to do with it.

Derek,

Hopefully already on your list but if not please incorporate the improvements to the driving experience and "physics" realism brought about by the user created mods discussed in the Physics forum here. If you are concerned that they may make driving too hard for the less experienced then surely that could be taken care of by making them active in only the expert mode.

Im liking what i read on rail simulator website about whats coming or maybe what's a rolling idea. I for one would like some junction sounds in there ;) and general clanging. But a definite graphics engine upgrade to suit Direct X 10 :D that would be immense.

I am really keen on where Rail Simulator is going, the current content is worth spending the cash for. UK content is more my fave by far, the UK has more detail when it comes to rail infrastructure.

My personal wish is that the wheel slip is further developed. I vividly remember seeing a Castle Class locomotive pull away from Kemble station when I was about 10, and although it wasnt particularly wet, the damn thing slipped badly, which when a 100+ ton locomotive does it in front of you sticks in the mind! He instantly shut down the power, and quickly got grip. My point is that whether is the black 5 or a lot of the privately developed locomotives, hardly any of them seem to suffer much from wheelslip. Even when they do, if you keep the power in they seem to power out of it. Thats one of the few things about the physics in the game that strike me as wrong. Some locomotives seem to accelerate too fast, but IMHO thats probably because as a driver you dont have to worry about wheelslip, so you can fire the throttle wide open. I do wonder about the regulator and the rapid increase of steam consumption when you drop below 50 percent, I did read somewhere that might conform to reality?

Secondly, Id like to see water troughs. Im sure they are on the list, but clearly as people develop longer routes for the steam era, they are going to be particularly important for the express locomotives.

Other than that, I dont really have much in the way of problems with the game. The more I play it, the more I like it. Particularly the Class 08. :)

I agree wheelslip needs to be more realistic and of course properly animated.

I think the whole RS steam driving experience - graphics, sound and physics - ranks a poor third behind Trainz TC3 and MSTS, and that would be near top of my list for attention.

Other than fixing that, I'd like to see an expanded F5 screen showing the same data as MSTS- injector settings especially.

Hiya Jungrail, i have just made a scenario, but am in two minds wether to upload it or not as the cost to a newbie could be upwards of a whopping £100, ok if you have aquired the assets over time, but not if you haven't!

Is any of this information posted in the proposals section of the official forums? While we make every effort to view community forums, we by no means read every corner of them. Most of the time Derek and I only read community forum sections and topics that are of interest to us.

The official support forum however is read from head to toe several times a week.
