Dev tools gone!

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Dev tools gone!

Post by peterdore »

After installing MK2 ran the sim no problems, Try and make a new scenario....no way! the tools which were in the top left panel are gone!

Uninstalled the sim, reinstalled the game then MK1, then Mk2 still no tools, cant create any new scenarios

My thoughts are that Mk2 has killed them, could be wrong of course, any help would be most appreciated

Hi

After uninstalling did you check to see if the Railsimulator folder was still in program files?
If it is manually delete it, then reinstall Railsimulator, Dev tools then MK1 followed by any official addons etc. Make sure you do a full back up of the entire Railsim program before uninstalling though!
This is how I got my editor working again.
Hope it helps!

This also happened to me as well, but remembering what I'd been advised to do in this case, previously, I simply went to the Rail Simulator folder and looked for the RailSimEditor.exe file and made a shortcut on the Desktop for it. Closed Windows Explorer and clicked on the new Desktop icon, waited while it loaded, and went to my own created route I'm working on, and selected it, and EDIT. Then after it loaded (seems to take longer loading routes with Mk2 Upgrade installed, although the program itself starts up decidedly more quickly, to the main menu screen, anyway). Railsim started fine in Edit mode, and sure enough, the DevTools showed up where they should have, and I was able to do stuff with them as normal. There's no need to delete manually (not reccommended at all) the program and reinstall it all, just look for the RailSimEditor.exe file and do the shortcut to the Desktop and you should be just fine, although I'm not too sure just why the tool icons won't show up where they were before, as I thought the DevTools were included in the upgrade. But at 21 Megs, the upgrade seems too small to have the tools included, given the size of this tools program, compared to the Upgrade itself ! Hope this helps others as well, if they get worried at the missing Dev Tools after upgrading. Cheers.

Did what you have suggested with shortcuts & it didn't work for me in anycase, that's why I did a full reinstall. The reinstall didnt work either because after uninstalling in the correct way the RS folder was still in program files and the original shortcuts were still there too. I think we are all having differing problems, that's where this forum is great, we get to share what we have discovered!

Update!
3rd Reinstall.......downloaded and installed Mk1, next downloaded Devtools....tried to install
but programe said this Devtools is not compatable with this version of Railsimulator, now how can that be?
so I pondered a bit, double clicked again, same message, double clicked the devtools again...Hey presto they installed :o

Installed Mk2 and guess what? it worked :o ... and the tools are all there now  I have no idea why these problems have occured, all works fine, I can make new scenarios etc.

I have also made a working copy on my external Hard drive too.

I am still at a loss of why these problems were caused and exactly how they resovled them selves!

Glad you got sorted out Pete, we need to keep you 'On Board'.

It does seem strange that this MK2 upgrade is giving some folk problems and others are not, luckily I installed it with no problems first time and everything seems to be working as before thank goodness.

I got mine working simply by creating an icon for the Tools on the desktop and starting KRS from that icon. But I definately would love to know why it won't show up the tools in the editor as it should. Any fix for that apart from re-installing KRS ?

One question here: What do some of you reckon is the most useful and OBVIOUS improvement / fix in the Upgrade Mk2 ? I want to see what others think. No doubt everyone had a different opinion here, and it'd be interesting to see what's "important" and what's not :)
