Not Compatable With This Version?

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Not Compatable With This Version?

Post by petermakosch »

Hello!

So after getting my new system built, installing Rail Simulator from afresh, I try and run the MK1 upgrade and get: "Installation Failled. This upgrade is not compatable with the installed version of Rail Simulator". Now I have seen this error before but I have only just installed Rail Simulator, I haven't added anything or changed any files.

Now running Vista 64x - perhaps this is a reason?

I also get a large error when installing addons, such of the like as below:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The Network Path was not found.

Code: Select all

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
I have my Rail Simulator installed on a different drive to the OS, but this was true in my XP machine. Of course, the troubleshooting will begin with running things as an Administrator, trying in compatability mode, but I strongly suspect they will both fail to install the addon.

Please also note, these are all official and downloaded from the RS website.

Thank you

EDIT: Solved the package installer by installing them manually. Check out this post for more information.

Make sure you're not running the no-cd version of Rail Simulator.

That's just it, I'm not, hence why I said "I have only just installed Rail Simulator, I haven't added anything or changed any files."

Hi Pete,

Can you confirm where you obtained Upgrade mk1 from? We have had countless problems with a rogue version of Mk1 that appeared on UKTrainSim, and it seems even now many months on, people are still trying to use this incompatible version of the Mk1 Upgrade.

Well, to be honest, I can't :(
I am pretty sure I downloaded it from the Rail Simulator straight away when it was released, but I cannot be 100% certain. To make sure everything was alright I re-downloaded the MK1 upgrade from the Rail Simulator website. In doing this, it has enabled me to install the expansion pack where before it would throw up some sort of error. I can also confirm that the MK2 upgrade has installed with no problems, which strongly hints at the rogue MK1 file being the cause. Not sure if you wanted to try this with a couple more people, but I'm convinced!

Thanks
