Is there any one out there who hasent brought this yet apart from me...? The one and only reason i have not is simply because i dont like bying downloads..i use these as a last resort and much prefer to buy a packaged cd/dvd format

I recoommend downloading it. There would be little point in putting it on to CD as the file is not all that big.

I think I read that the IOW will be released on disk by Just Trains but I don't know when that is supposed to happen.

Nope, not until a sensible download licensing / activation system is sorted out. I've voiced my concerns in another thread so won't air them in this one too...

I'm also yet to buy it, but once i have my new vista isntall sorted i will be. Am just curious though, are the gauges standard? so could i run a black 5 or a HST on the Isle?

Standard gauge, so yes the black 5 will run on it.

Derek, I've noticed that the minimum radius of the IOW track isn't as accute as the default track - is this by design or as a consequence of the 3d sleepers?

Probably, I still can't get my head round not being able to use 3rd rail on other routes

it isnt very long so i dont think there would be any point in running an hst set on it, would probably run out of line by time the hst got up to speed, i enjoy running the included ex london underground stock, good cab which isnt too hard to run with the mouse, it is a very good looking route but doesnt really lend itself to traffic, mainly single track but in all im glad i spent the money, as for the download issue just make sure you print a copy of the email with your id on it

Ah fair, my mistake.

The trackrule was setup to match the requirements of the Isle of Wight route. The default trackrules were setup to the requirements of the routes they were used on. Remember a TrackRule can be custom per network so its possible to have more than one used per route, so long as they are not connected together.

I have decided not to buy the Isle of Wight route for the following reasons:
I like to build my own routes and create my own scenarios, therefore:
1. There is not enough additional rolling stock for my purposes. (One industrial type steam loco, two 4-wheel passenger coaches, a couple of wagons, and a two coach tube stock electric train.) I would like to have the two four wheeled coaches, and I have downloaded the free SR brake van, which is very good and serves my purposes excellently.
2. The signalling system which, although 'compatible' with the existing default signals, is specific to the I o W route.
3. Track which is specific to the I o W route.
4. I would use the ready-made stations on my own route, but I am satisfied with the other scenic objects I already have.
By the way, in another thread either RSadam or RSdereck said, in answer to someone's complaint that one of the stations had the goods shed attached to the main station building and couldn't be detached and laid seperately, that he didn't see why anyone would want to use an I o W station on any other route. To me that is a very short-sighted view. There are many of us building fictional routes using ready made stations as well as making stations up from the linear platforms and seperate generic station buildings. All the stations on my MSTS 'loosely based' Irish route were ready made Japanese stations...ah so, so there!

Point 4 is a very valid one, however instead of being short sighted, RSDL are actually thinking specifically about route authors and what resources they want available. We had many discussions about how to present particular assets on the Isle of Wight route, and we decided that route authors would most likely not use significant assets from commercial addons, as that would set requirements such as having not only the core sim but also other irrelevent routes installed just to get their own route functioning. Something we have been reminded of countlessly with the US and European releases of Rail Simulator.

Therefore, we made decisions on some assets that do infact limit their use on freeware routes. However, coupled to this is our intention to develop specific addons that purely provide the route author with more resources, the first of which being Dereks foliage pack.

The IOW route is quite delightful.
Just watching the hovercraft gliding past Ryde Pier adds to that reality considerably and I can even see the cafe I had a coffee in at Ryde on the front.

I too would like to have add-ons on disc and certainly anyone without a fast internet connection may have problems with the download. I can see why some people would not or could not purchase and download the route so perhaps RSDL need to review the situation so that a disc alternative can be made available to make the add-ons accessible to everyone.

The IOW route has many good new assets to use, particularly vegetation, so in my view for that alone it was well worth the cost, and I had to buy two copies for my two separate installations!
