Just a wee bit of help, please ?

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Just a wee bit of help, please ?

Post by dx5517 »

I seem to have installed a set of HST cars (Mk3 First & Second) in the green LNER livery (plus matching Class 43 loco) - but the cars only show up as knuckle couplers at the ends and nothing else. I have the USA version of KRS, and am going through the list of 7 vehicles that show up like this.

So far, I have them all working fine now apart from the two Mk3 cars (forgot to check the loco out as well, sorry, but expect it to not show up as well). I can't seem to locate the downloaded file in my Downloads folder, not really knowing what the filename is, so I can read the ReadMe file again and be sure of what I did, or didn't do when installing it. Can someone who knows the download file I'm referring to, and what it's called, please name it here in a reply to this message if possible Thanks for anything offered. Cheers.

Regards...

Have you deleted the blueprints.pak file?

Not sure about the the US version but found at C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator (or whatever drive you have it installed on) on european version

Also quite possibly C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS

I always keep my downloads folder sorted by date, not name. That way, I only need to remember how long it was that I downloaded something (1 hour, 1 day, 2 days) to locate the file.

Reading about US version vs. European -- maybe the new items are in C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator and your real installation is C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS. Copying the folders to the other side should help, just be sure that you find them all, but in my view, it will only be one or more folders under RailVehicles or so.

But then again, you say that you see (only) the couplers, so you must be able to select the vehicles in the object list. Then, I would guess there is some problem with a texture or some other part of the graphical representation which causes KRS to give up on rendering the item, but still it shows the (technically independent) coupling.

G'day there, and thanks for the reply.

I decided to take another, more detailed dig into things last night after the message was written, although I didn't hold much hope in finding the solution. But I did, somehow, and couldn't really believe my carelessness ! The answer was really simple, as it was just that I put the unzipped folder into the correct location, but there was another folder inside that one, which should have been what went into the location, not the just-unzipped one, so it's all working now, and I could really kick myself for not looking closer at the ReadMe file. The problem is that where they've written the full path for placing folders inside KRS, the longer the path, the more likely it is for me (and others as well ?) to mis-read something and get it wrong. A wee bit like trying to read a telephone number including the area code and such, without any hyphens included, like 6493765142 instead of 649-376-5142, say. I did check it all out and reloaded KRS and found that the LNER HST now appeared, including the power car, so I need to be a little more careful when installing things, to be sure about extra folders. Thanks again for the reply. Cheers.
