Crawling AI Trains.

General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.

Well, after battling constantly with crawling AI trains and stuck AI trains on the most simplest types of lines, ie
long sections of double track with no switches, the stuck AI trains are still there.
Totally kills the scenerio.
Since there doesnt seem to be any time frame to fix this problem, its time to give this game away.
Thought it initially had a lot of potential.

The most helpful thing you can do is to try creating simple scenarios which demonstrate various ways of causing the problems you're experiencing and then email each scneario over to RSDL, all they generally see on the forums are people saying "it doesnt work" and what they really need are "and here's an example" - the more they get the more likely we are to get fixes to all these issues.

Hi

I understand how you feel about this but you are not alone here. As Matt has suggested try a different approach to creating the scenario. There are limits as to what can be done with Rail Sim at this time. I have tried quite a number of scenario creations, failing on a number of them, but discovering some thing new in the process.
I am affraid it will be some time before Rail Sim addresses all issues raise by users, as we are still awaiting patch 2 and other rectifications to consolidate its foundations.
As Matt has said try again after all you may discover some thing which Rail Sim hasn't.

Mike

Hi, while the work for Mk2 has finished, planning for the future has not. We do have a meeting with the Kuju coders who worked on the dispatcher this Thursday.
Once we have discussed the issues we will schedule the work.
I'm sure Adam and I will keep you posted as best we can.

As one who is sitting on the fence on this program the above message is quite encouraging. The customer must invest considerable effort to see the current potential of RS. For some it is upsetting to see the result of some hours of work end up with no solution that is apparent. :bad-words: For others it is just something that RSDL will fix and they move on. :o

They are just keeping it in some closet for some months because they are sadists and love to see us whine for it.
Or maybe someone told them that it gets better, like cheese if you age it a bit.
Or they need to wait for a suitable Friday because game software is always released on Fridays (at least I was told so).

Whilst I would like to continue with this game , Im not a beta tester.
Bugs which totally effectively kill the games scenerios are to my way of thinking
game killers.
Making scenerios in this game is hard enough as it is due to the methodology used
to author AI trains, and its very time consuming to simply get a simple scenerio to actually successfully load.
Ive lost count of how many times Ive got the Scenerio failed to load message.
Maybe someone from RSDL could actually clarify who actually coded the game , who has or owns the source code
and ultimately who will get to fix bugs like this.
An interim simple fix , like just deleting a stuck AI train from the world would help as at least the rest of the scenerio could then go on.

Mauried, it sounds like you're trying to write scenarios without the aid of the single most useful thing in the scenario builders toolbox "ShowDriverList".

Go to the scenario creation forum and look at one of the stickies in there about how to help with "scenario failed to load" messages - it details how to use this command line parameter that enables an absolutely crucial and essential tool for scenario builders.

It basically lets you view all your services and whether they are "failing" or "succeeding" - if any fail then you are obviously going to get a failed to load message if you load it, so you can tweak the service or the ones around it and press "apply" followed by "refresh" on the list of services to see immediately whether you've fixed the problem.

Using this i've been able to start writing quite a complex scenario starting in Newcastle - i'm up to about 25 AI services so far and the player train at this point has not even left the station. Writing it without ShowDriverList would have been impossible even for the most patient of people.

If all your services show up as "succeeded" then your scenario WILL load correctly... whether it plays properly is another matter, some of the issues will be yours, some of them will be that stupid despatcher.

I'll say it one last time - with the essential help of ShowDriverList you will NEVER see Scenario Failed to Load EVER again.

IMHO RSDL should be making an effort to push this to being activated as normal in the build, far too many people are missing it and without it Scenario building is basically a frustrating and pointless exercise.

No, I have the ShowDrivelList option enabled, and it shows no problem with any of the trains
but the Scenerio still fails to load.
The only way I have been able to fix this , is by deleting each train one by one , until the Scenerio will load.
A time consuming and fiddly business.
It would seem far more sensible to simply have some kind of integrity checking done before you get to save the
Scenerio in the first place.
Logically, if the Scenerio saves , then it should load.
