General discussion about Rail Simulator that doesn't really fit in to any specific category. A good place to start if you're not sure what category it should fit in to as well.
Waiting waiting? waiting for MK2. The queston is when will it be available for download
Second queston is why do thay like to withhold most if not all information till the very second its released?
Know i know that RDSL like to release information or evan better may release something on friday.
Im hopeing for something to get released tommorow friday either the IOW or the Mk2 service pack.
It is very difficult for software developers to give a date for release of any particular patch. RSDL did say the patch was about ready to send to their beta testers, but it could be that a beta tester has found a glaring error in it. If so, then the patch will need to be fixed to get rid of this problem and the whole test process has to start again.
This 'when will it be released' is really a 'How long is a piece of string' type of query.
We do not really want a patch which contains errors, do we?

I'm not arguing (just explaining why I'm right).
Seeing this thread I thought I would add that Upgrade Mk2 is about to cross the finishing line as it were, so it would be best (as the title suggests) to ensure that replies here concentrate on upgrades in general rather than turning into what people want to see in Upgrade Mk2.
When we are 100% happy with the final feature list it will be published for all to see.
What I do find pleasing is that alot of stuff listed in the above posts are actually already quite possible in Rail Simulator, so it is suprising to see people even asking for them. We will look into another drive of documentation and tutorials to help more people realise the sheer potential and power of Rail Simulator, rather than believing what comes in the box is all you can have.
I would also ask that people dont revert to comments such as 'the well known X bug' or 'the over discussed Y annoyance' because as we read this thread, some of these 'claimed' issues can be hard to then go off and find else where on the forum. If there is something you want to see upgraded, be sure to say exactly what it is. Threads like this really do help us
Happy posting
I suppose that post has just pushed me over the edge

Hang in there mate, think it's close but let them test it properly. Like Mike says they won't release a patch with obvious errors, but I know we are all eager to hear of what issues have been addressed.

Hmmm dunno about that.
Remember the 1st upgrade with the problem signals?
I didnt get a reply about a public beta test either from RSDL?

I could understand if it was say myself asking for a public beta test on say Rail Simulator 2 but it isnt MK2 will be a free upgrade so haveing a public beta test should be ok.
Have a download at your own risk sort of thing.
We could evan have a thread here of were we report the bugs.

if only you knew/understood... having what you're suggesting can potentially just cause chaos, because if you download something "at your own risk" and it breaks your installation or extra content it'll be YOU that jumps up and down complaining about it and how it's terrible and it'll be YOU (and everyone else) seeking support for something that was "at your own risk".
Public betas of software are possible, but maybe it doesn't achieve what is really needed on all occasions, so isn't always appropriate.

I can just imagine the chaos now, and the moderation that would be required.....

Come on Overmarze, admit it, you just like a good old moan.
Just for the crack, her's what I like about RailSim….
I like the easy way of laying track, and putting in points and crossings and crossovers.
I like the easy way of laying and placing station platforms with people already standing and walking about them.
I like the easy way of laying fences and walls alongside the track using the off-set tool.
I like the easy way of laying roads with traffic already buzzing up and down them.
I like the easy way of making roads and fences rise and dip with the gradient tool.
I like the easy way of splitting a length of track, road, fence or wall that’s been put in too long, and simply delete the surplus bit.
I like the easy way of placing scenery items of all sorts ready made for me.
I like the easy way of quickly raising and lowering terrain in large or small chunks.
I like the easy way of changing the colour of the terrain to represent gravel or grass etc.
I like the easy way of placing locos and rolling stock on the track.
I like the easy way of putting together and saving a consist.
I like the easy way of placing signals and mile posts beside the track.
I like the easy way of creating a new route, plain, flat and green ready for immediate track laying and scenery placement.
I like the easy way of creating a copy of an existing route.
I like the easy way of copying the contents and assets folders for backup purposes.
And I like the easy way of using the Package Manager to install extra locos and rolling stock, and signals and things I’ve downloaded off this site.

Dunno about this as i would just back up my RS folder then revert back to it if everything is not perfect.
