Class 08 shunter
Hi,
The class 08 shunter is available from RS for those who are interested.
We took out 2 scenarios from the pack (york - Newcastle ones) so that it would not cause any conflicts with people who had the non European version.
However on Monday we will put up those scenarios in our free downloads section.
best regards
Derek

Re: Class 08 shunter
You know, Derek, if it's a model by you, we would even buy mugs.
Btw., as soon as the t-shirts are out, I hope you provide reskins for the t-shirts wearing people in KRS. If you provide them in a range of colours, the KRS logo will show up in quite some screenshots, I guess. Of course, it does not beat the marketing effect of someone going to the local model railways club in a KRS t-shirt, but still, it would be a nice touch.

Re: Class 08 shunter
Hi AndiS,
Funny you should say that...
I have skinned up a few characters with the RS logo on their tshirts.
I am currently (along with so many other things) putting together some characters for Free download, also a document to go with them so that people will be able to set up their own animated and platform characters.
A couple of steam drivers sitting for those that asked , workmen (from the 50's,70s, and 00s) milling around so they can be placed as track side workers and a couple of passengers just sitting on benches. (wearing some lovely RS tshirts)
I'll let you know when they go up.
Best regards
Derek

Re: Class 08 shunter
Sorry for being a constant miracle. I am simple, internally, but maybe complex on a phenomenological level.RSderek wrote:Hi AndiS,

I want a working simulator with good graphics. KRS is still the least unlikely candidate to fulfil many of my desires. So I wholeheartedly wish it success (as a simulator, not as a model-presenter). At the same time, I need to speak up when I see something which I consider bad for this development, like missing documentation or diversion of effort into selling mugs. But then again, I see you completely outsourced it to someone else, so I hope he does not charge too much fixed fees and leaves you a noteworthy share after paying the material and his server and that you can at least have a few cookies from that.
At the same time, my brain suffers from diarrhoea, so whenever some though, small or big, forms itself, it gets vented instantaneously. Also, they tell me that thinking positive and/or constructive is the thing of this age, so I try that, which directly led to the suggestion about the virtual t-shirts. A related idea would be to have posters or plates on your models like the signalbox, in perfect style of the era, saying "This signalbox was erected by Derek Siddle for the enjoyment of the KRS community." We have such writings on municipal residential buildings, quoting the major's name and year of construction.
Likewise, your staff models could have "leased from Rail Simulator Human Resources Ltd." somewhere on their cloth. The point is to connect in-game advertising for your own product with some irony, so people will smile instead of getting furious about the advertising.

Superb as usual Andi. Your humour has no limits. Plaques ( not the dental type } on Signal Boxes why not. If it was well hidden they could be called an Easter Egg. BTW are there any in KRS? FS9 has quite a few.
At least we will be able to say "KRS been there, done that, bought the T-shirt"
Regards James.

Re: Class 08 shunter
I purchased the 08 and Scenario's package from RS site this morning, downloaded after payment no problem, ran the installer to load the 08 and 2 Scenario's into the Sim and no problems. I was just thinking this is going well and ran the Sim and guess what 'Newcastle York' Route was missing, checked the files in the Rail Simulator folders and the Newcastle York Route and its Scenarios are there, this I believe indicates a problem with the Route.xml (on checking the .xml file the Newcastle York information is now missing). How is one to know there is a problem with this file, if after loading a 'Rogue' Route previously it leads to problems later on? Interestingly I have added numerous Assets and Scenarios over several months and had no problems whatsoever.
The last time this happened was when I loaded the Cinder Lane Route, the only way I could solve it was to uninstall and re-install RS afresh. After re-installing everything I have only added non-RS Routes after checking that no reports of problems had been reported on the Forum. I had installed Bristol Sheffield V4, the Corris Railway and EALR each one loaded with no problems. Has anyone else (with these Routes installed) experienced my 'missing Route' problem when installing the 08 package on their P/C?
I had been enjoying running and watching the development of RS, but this re-occurring problem goes against the grain. It looks like another time consuming uninstall and re-install of RS is the only way to get my 'Newcastle York' Route back.
Surely there is a better way to avoiding this common problem of 'missing Routes' when one adds additional files to RS without being a computer genius?
The 08 is a fine model Derek (I tried it out in the other Routes) and thanks for the hard work you have put in to produce it.

Re: Class 08 shunter
I have read a report or two ( I think ) about the EARL but it is hard to tell if that is the actual cause of of any problems seeing it is generally the file before the current one causing it. The safest option I think is to backup the content folder before installing any thing that is installed in that folder ie routes and scenarios. I keep at least two ( or more ) older versions in case something goes wrong.
Doing that means I don't have to reinstall the whole program. I also backup the whole RS folder occasionally or before installing a add on package.
Before installing ( especially a route ) it is a good idea to open the route.xml in IE or Firefox and see if it reports any errors. If there are errors then they need to be fixed before installing anything else.

You mean like a red lever in a hidden corner of the cab of the shunter, when you pull it the shunter turns into a Batmobile or so?Retro wrote:If it was well hidden they could be called an Easter Egg. BTW are there any in KRS? FS9 has quite a few.
That should help entertain the 3+ target audience. "Dad, your new loco sucks, no guns, no monsters, no nothing." From Derek's website I know that he does warriors, too. So we ought to be disappointed if we cannot find such a red handle somewhere. Hey, I said something negative about the 08! I never thought I could ever achieve that. Must be the full moon.

From my Observations it is always full Moon in KRS. Never mind 3+. I always wanted a Batmobile. To be serious for a moment I got the O8's with the EP and they are a superb and show real quality in every department.AndiS wrote:You mean like a red lever in a hidden corner of the cab of the shunter, when you pull it the shunter turns into a Batmobile or so?Retro wrote:If it was well hidden they could be called an Easter Egg. Re: Class 08 shunter
Yesterday, I posted a message on train-sim.com about my experience installing the Class 08 and today the thread has disappeared
Maybe I have upset someone, however the following is what happened.
1. I paid for the 08 and downloaded it no problems.
2. I ran the installer and it placed it in c:\program files\Rail Simulator - There was no choice of where you installed it, it just stuck it into the place where your RS is installed as listed in the registry. Now, I have the US version, the EU version and a combined version on my PC. The one it was put into was the US version, so it did NOT install the new scenarios for the Newcastle-York route, as that route was not included with the US version.
3. I then had to manually transfer the locos and the scenarios to my combined version which is where I wanted them in the first place, but still have no extra scenarios for Newcastle-York.
Why do RSDL continue to do this, the Package Manager allows you to select which version of RS you wish to use, but the Setup.exe they supply with downloads does not, it would seem a simple enough modification?
I hope that they will read this, and not delete it this time?
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for sharing that information, I guess that your thread has disappeared to the same place as my Newcastle York Route.

Re: Class 08 shunter
Just to give you some background on the "3+"... That's the PEGI (Pan Europe Games Information) age rating, based on the content of the product, and isn't a "target audience" rating.AndiS wrote:That should help entertain the 3+ target audience.
"3+" is the rating given to titles which don't have content in them which is specifically likely to cause offence to children, bad langauge, violence, etc... (which are illustrated as descriptors on the back of the packaging for relevant titles so buyers can know what sort of content the game has got). Might be worth looking at http://www.askaboutgames.com
Interestingly in Portugal Rail Simulator has a "4+", which isn't an age rating PEGI offer in the UK...
