INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
This may seem a ridiculously simple request for those experts amongst us but could someone please give me an idiots guide as to how I install downloads into RailSim such as new locomotives or the Looe route. The website mentions 'Package Manager' but not how to find it or use it. Please help a numpty!

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
Hi,
The Package Manager will be found in
\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Packager.
I always copy the .rpk file over into this Packager folder, it makes things a bit simpler.
Then I double click on the Package Manager itself and follow the Wizard. When it asks for the address of the package to install simply key in the name of the .rpk file, not forgetting the '.rpk' at the end, and press next. Then it's all done for you, and you simply click on finish.
When you next start up Rail Simulator, you have to go into your route, start the Free Roam scenario and then edit (the Globe in the bottom pop up), click on the blue cube with an arrow in the middle left pop-out menu, and in the right hand pop out menu you will click on the box to get a list of developers. In the read-me file you will have the instructions for which name to select, then click on the add-on box. You should then find your new loco in the usual list on the left middle pop-out.
I've just written all that from the top of my head, so I hope you can follow it OK.
Regards from an Old Chap.

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
As said it lies in the program files directory, but it should be on your Start menu also under Rail Simulator Package Manager.

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
another quick one on a similar subject.
I seem to have to use the enabling cube (i cant think of a better way to describe it!) to use downloaded locos all the time. Should this be the case? Surely once i have activated a creators work in the right hand window (by ticking it) it should always appear in Rail sim from then on? I seem to have to go through this proccess everytime i want to use a specific loco ive installed though? Does anyone else have this problem?
i.e when i install 3rd party loco's and then enable them in RS do i have to do this for every scenario i wish to use them in? or every route? or "should" they automatically appear as sellectable in every route once i have enabled them once in the editor/scenario creator? I cant seem to work out why this doesnt appear to be the case? should they appear for every route or scenario after i have enabled ("ticked") them once? I hope that makes some sense!

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
Thanks Derek. Do you have to do it again if you dont save the scenario that you enable them in?

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
You can access it either by going to C:\Program Files\Rail Simulator\Packager\PackageManager.exe (by default) or on your start menu under Rail Simulator Package Manager.

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
Thanks but that is just what the Old Chap told Barry to do. My problem is the folder Packager does not appear in the list of folders in Rail Simulator, neither does it appear in the Start\Program Files section. It seems very odd that this does not appear in my copy of Rail Simulator.Should I contact EA?

Re: INSTALLING DOWNLOAD INTO RAILSIM
Nope, go to the Rail Simulator web site and download the package manager from the Downloads / Official content page. You may have to be logged in to see it though. http://www.railsimulator.com/en/downloa ... or-content
